Paramount Debuts the First Trailer for "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7"

Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for the film, “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” on Monday, May 23rd, 2022.  The stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Frederick Schmidt, all of whom will reprise their roles from the previous films.  Newcomers include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, and Cary Elwes.  The film is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

The film opens in theaters on July 14, 2023.

TRAILER: The First Official Teaser Trailer for "THOR: Love and Thunder" is Here

The first official teaser for Marvel StudiosTHOR: LOVE AND THUNDER has arrived.  The film reportedly finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced — a quest for inner peace.  However, his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods.  To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who — to Thor’s surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Marvel Studios’ THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale. Directed by Taika Waititi. In theaters July 8, 2022.

TRAILER: "MINIONS: The Rise of Gru" Official Trailer Has Arrived

July 1st, 2022 will see the release of MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU, the sequel to the 2015 box office smash, Minions.  The Rise of Gru is set after the events of the first film and finds 12-year-old Gru and the Minions on the run from a group of super-villains (led by Taraji P. Henson) that Gru wanted to join.  The official trailer arrived Wednesday, March 30th and can be seen below:

TRAILER: New "TOP GUN: Maverick" Official Trailer (3/29/2022)

After numerous delays, TOP GUN: MAVERICK, the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 box office hit, Top Gun, is set to arrive in theaters May 27th, 2022.  Star Tom Cruise returns to play one of his signature roles, that of test pilot, Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.  On Tuesday, a new official trailer for the film debuted.  You can see it below:

Marvel Studios Releases New Stephen Strange Image from "DOCTOR STRANGE 2"

Marvel Studios has released four new images from its upcoming film, "DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS," which arrives in theaters May 6, 2022.  Directed by Sam Raimi, the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor. and Xochitl Gomez.  The image below features Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange standing in a room full of candles:

STREAMING - From YahooEntertainment:  Netflix is running a Christmas comedy special from Brazil, entitled "The First Temptation of Christ," which apparently implies that Jesus Christ was gay.  More than a million angry viewers have signed a petition demanding that Netflix remove it its service.

GOLDEN GLOBES - From IndieWire:  "Queen & Slim" director Melina Matsoukas says "Golden Globe" voters refused to watch her film prior to voting for the awards.  Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who vote for the Globes, were offered three screening, which hardly any members attended, according to the direction and the film's distributor, Universal Pictures.

OBITS:

From THR:  The actor Danny Aiello has died at the age of 86, Thursday, December 12, 2019.  He is best known as Cher's lovelorn suitor in "Moonstruck" (1987) and as "Sal" the pizza joint owner in Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" (1989), for which he earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination.  Aiello won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1981 for his appearance on the "ABC Afterschool Special" in 1980.

From CNN:  Swedish pop singer, songwriter, and recording artist, Marie Fredriksson, has died at the age of 61, Monday, December 9, 2019.  She was best known as a member of the Swedish pop music duo, "Roxette," which has a string of hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including "The Look" and "It Must Have Been Love."  She also recorded as a solo artist from 1984 to 2018.

From Deadline:  The actor Rene Auberjonois has died at the age of 79, Sunday, December 8, 2019.  Auberjonois is best known for two roles.  He was Clayton Endicott III on ABC's sitcom, "Benson" (1979-1986).  He was "Odo" on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993-1999).  He was also a prolific voice actor in animated TV series and films ("The Little Mermaid."

From Deadline:   The actor Ron Leibman has died at the age of 82, Friday, December 6, 2019.  He won a Tony Award for playing infamous attorney, Roy Cohn, in the play, "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches."  He won an Emmy Award for his starring role in the short-lived CBS crime drama, "Kaz" (1978-79).

AWARDS - From IndieWire:  The National Board of Review has announced its 2019 film awards and name Martin Scorsese's "The Irishman" as its "Best Film of 2019."

DISNEY - From THR:  Disney is developing its first spinoff from its hit, live-action film, "Aladdin."  The Disney+ project would focus on "Prince Anders," the dim-witted royal who wanted to marry Jasmine.  Actor Billy Magnussen, who played the role in the film, would return for the spinoff.

TELEVISION - From THR:  HBO has picked up Adam McKay's drama about the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers of the professional basketball league, the National Basketball Association (NBA).  McKay is executive producing the series that would focus on the "Showtime" era of the Lakers, led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson.

From Deadline:  Veteran TV and film executive and producer, Leonard Goldberg, has died at the age of 85, Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  He was the former president of 20th Century Fox and Head of Programming at ABC.  Goldberg was an executive producer of such TV series as "Charlie’s Angels" (1976-1981) and "Blue Bloods" (2010 to present).


From Deadline:  The actor, Robert Walker, Jr., has died at the age of 79, Thursday, December 5, 2019.  He was the son of Hollywood stars, Robert Walker (best known for Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train") and Jennifer Jones (who won an Oscar for her performance in "The Song of Bernadette").  Although he made numerous film and TV appearances, Walker is best known for appearing in the "Charlie X," the second episode of the first season of the original "Star Trek" TV series.

From THR:  Television writer Dorothy Catherine Fontana, better known as D.C. Fontana, has died at the age of 80, Monday, December 2, 2019.   Once a secretary, Fontana moved into writing scripts for television in the 1960s.  She is best known for her association with the original "Star Trek" TV series, being credited for writing or co-writing 10 episodes and working as the series "story editor" for the first two seasons.

From Deadline:  Actress Shelley Morrison has died at the age of 83, Sunday, December 1, 2019.  She had a 50-year career in film and television, but Morrison was best known for playing fan-favorite character, "Rosario Salazar," on the NBC television series, "Will & Grace" (1999-2006).

From BBC:  The African-American songwriter and musician, Irving Louis Burgie - better known as Lord Burgess - has died at the age of 95, Friday, November 29, 2019.  Burgess is best known for co-writing a version of the Jamaican folk song, "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)," that Harry Belafonte made famous.  He also wrote eight of the 11 songs on Belafonte's 1956 album, Calypso, which was the first album to sell one million copies.

BOX OFFICE - From Deadline:  The final total on the opening weekend for "Avengers: Endgame" is 357.1 million dollars in domestic box office.  Of course, the film was the #1 at the 4/26 to 4/28/2019 weekend box office.

TELEVISION - From TheWrap:  CBS is renewing classic game show, "The Price is Right" for the 2019-20 season.  It is also renewing the entirety of its daytime lineup for next season.  2019-20 will also be "The Price is Right's" 48th season, and the show will hit 9000 episodes in October 2019.

MOVIES/OBIT - From Variety:  The film writer-director-producer John Singleton has died at the age of 51, Monday, April 29, 2019.  In 1992, Singleton became the first African-American nominated for a best director Oscar for his 1991 film, "Boyz n the Hood," one of two nominations he received for the film.  He also directed films such as "Poetic Justice," "Shaft" (2000), and the second film in the "Fast & Furious" franchise, "2 Fast 2 Furious."  He had been hospitalized when he suffered a stroke on April 17th, from which he never recovered.

From Variety:  Word is that director John Singleton ("Boyz n the Hood"), who suffered a stroke just short of two weeks ago, will be taken off life support, today, Monday, April 29, 2019.

BLM - From YahooNews:  On June 7, 1998, three white supremacists in Texas beat a 49-year-old black man, James Byrd Jr., chained him to the back of a pick-up truck and dragged him for three miles, tearing his body apart.  On Wednesday, April 24th, 2019, Texas executed 44-year-old John William King for that crime.  He is the second to be executed for killing Byrd; ringleader Lawrence Russell Brewer was executed in 2011.  A third man received life in prison.

OBITS:

From MeTV:  The actor Richard Erdman died at the age of 93, Saturday, March 16, 2019.  Erdman appeared in over 160 film and TV roles.  He had a memorable role in an episode of "The Twilight Zone" ("A Kind of Stopwatch"), and his career ran for 1944 to 2017.  In recent years, he had a regular role in the NBC comedy, "Community."  I wanted to mention Erdman's passing, which I missed, because I was a fan.  My favorite role of his is probably the 1951 Film-Noir movie, "Cry Danger," which starred the great Dick Powell. - Leroy Douresseaux

From THR:  The actor, Larry "Flash" Jenkins, has died at the age of 63, Thursday, April 25, 2019.  Jenkins was best known for his appearances in the films, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Edtv."

From Variety:  The actor, Ken Kercheval, has died at the age of 83.  Kercheval was best known for his portrayal of "Cliff Barnes" on CBS' long-running evening soap, "Dallas."  Kercheval and Dallas' star, the late Larry Hagman," were the only actors to appear in all 14 seasons of Dallas (1978-1991), although Kercheval's Barnes was a recurring character.

From THR:  Film producer, Steve Golin, has died at the age of 64, Sunday, April 21, 2019.  At the 88th Academy Awards, Golin won an Oscar for producing "Spotlight" (2015), one of four producers on the film who received a statuette.  Golin was actually competing against himself that night, as another film he produced, "The Revenant," was also up for the best picture Oscar.

From Deadline:  Noted paranormal investigator and author, Lorraine Warren, has died at the age of 92, Thursday, April 18, 2019.  Warren and her late husband, Ed Warren (who died in 2006), are known to film audiences because of they are the subjects of the films, "The Conjuring" and "The Conjuring 2," which were based on real-life events in the lives of Lorraine and Ed.

From TheWeek:  Former U.S. Congressman, Representative John Dingell (Democrat - Michigan, 12th U.S. District) has died at the age of 92, Thursday, December 7, 2019.  Dingell retired at the age of 88 in January 2015.  He was the nation's longest serving U.S. Congressman.

From TheWrap:  Veteran actor Donald Moffat has died at the age of 87, Thursday, December 20, 2018.  A prolific film, television, and Broadway actor, Moffat portrayed President Lyndon Johnson in the film "The Right Stuff" and a corrupt American president in "Clear and Present Danger."  I best remember him as the station master in John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982).  On stage, Moffat was also a Tony Award-nominated actor.

From Variety:  The actress and groundbreaking film director and producer, Penny Marshall, has died at the age of 75, Monday, December 17, 2018.  Marshall came to fame, starring in the ABC sitcom, "Laverne & Shirley" (1976 to 1983), alongside actress, Cindy Williams.  Marshall went on to become a successful director, becoming the first woman to direct a film that grossed over $100 million ("Big" in 1988).  She was also the second woman to direct a film that received an Oscar nomination for "Best Picture" (1990s "Awakenings").

From THR:  The actor, director, producer, screenwriter, and playwright, Peter Masterson, has died at the age of 84, Wednesday, December 19, 2018.  With Larry L. King, Masterson wrote the book for the Broadway play, "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" (1978), and King and Masterson (with Colin Higgins) wrote the screenplay for the 1982 film adaptation.  Masterson also directed the 1985 film, "The Trip to Bountiful," for which Geraldine Page won a best actress Oscar.  The film was written by Masterson's cousin, the late Horton Foote.  Masterson and his wife, Carlin Glynn, had four children, including actress Mary Stuart Masterson.

OBITS - From YahooSports:  Legendary women's college basketball coach, Pat Summitt, has died at the age of 64 this morning, Tuesday, June 28, 2016.  As head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers women basketball team, Summitt won 1098 games, the most for any NCAA Divsion 1 coach, male or female.  She also won 8 national championships.

From YahooSports:  Former NFL coach, Buddy Ryan, has died at the age of 82.  James David "Buddy" Ryan won two Super Bowl championships as an assistant coach.  He is most famous for his stint as the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears team that won Super Bowl XX.
