San Francisco, CA – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), a premier company in the fields of publishing, animation distribution, and global entertainment licensing, announces the launch of NARUTO: CHIBI SASUKE'S SHARINGAN LEGEND, a hilarious spin-off of the world’s most popular ninja manga series, NARUTO, on September 5th, 2017.

NARUTO: CHIBI SASUKE'S SHARINGAN LEGEND is written by Kenji Taira. The series is rated ‘T’ for Teens and will be published in print and digital editions under the Shonen Jump imprint; Volume 1 will carry a print MSRP of $9.99 U.S. / $12.99 CAN.

NARUTO: CHIBI SASUKE'S SHARINGAN LEGEND will be available digitally via VIZ.com and the VIZ Manga App, as well as from the Nook, Kobo, Kindle, iBooks, comiXology, and Google Play Store. Subsequent volumes of the series, which is also continuing in Japan, will be published in English on a quarterly basis.

Uchiha Sasuke, the brooding loner who will do anything to avenge his clan and kill his older brother… Yes, this is that story, but with a funny twist! In NARUTO: CHIBI SASUKE'S SHARINGAN LEGEND the characters and story have been flipped on their heads, all for the sake of comedy! With his Taka teammates Suigetsu, Karin and Jugo, Sasuke travels the land and gets into all kinds of wacky adventures. This is a side of Sasuke you’ve never seen before. One bit of advice: do not mock the Uchiha!

“Naruto’s best friend and rival, Sasuke, returns in this hijinks-filled new series,” says Alexis Kirsch, Editor. “We hope fans enjoy the ‘chibi’ art-style that adds to the hilarious flavor of the series, and takes the NARUTO canon in a fun new direction!”

NARUTO manga series creator, Masashi Kishimoto, was first inspired to become a manga artist in elementary school when he read DRAGON BALL. After spending time in art college, he won the Hop Step Award for new manga artists with his story Karakuri. After considering various genres for his next project, Kishimoto decided on a story steeped in traditional Japanese culture. His first version of NARUTO, drawn in 1997, was a one-shot story about fox spirits; his final version, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, quickly became the most popular ninja manga in the world. The series would also spawn multiple anime series, movies, novels, video games and more. Having concluded NARUTO in late 2014, Masashi Kishimoto has kept himself busy with the side stories such as NARUTO: THE SEVENTH HOKAGE AND THE SCARLET SPRING and writing the story for the latest NARUTO anime movie, BORUTO: NARUTO THE MOVIE, both of which focus on the title character's son, Boruto.

VIZ Media Acquires Anime Comedy, "Mr. Osomatsu"

VIZ MEDIA ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF THE MR. OSOMATSU ANIME SERIES

Uproarious Comedy About The Misadventures Of Six Unique Brothers Is Produced By The Famed Anime Production Company Studio Pierrot And Inspired By A Bestselling Manga Series

San Francisco, CA – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), a premier company in the fields of publishing, animation distribution, and global entertainment licensing, brings the hilarious story of six quirky siblings to North and Latin American audiences as it expands its anime catalog with the acquisition of MR. OSOMATSU. VIZ Media announced the news during its official panel held this past weekend during Otakon 2017.

Inspired by the classic manga series Osomatsu-Kun created by Fujio Akatsuka, MR. OSOMATSU is animated by Studio Pierrot, which also produced the massively successful BLEACH and NARUTO anime series (also distributed in English by VIZ Media). VIZ Media has acquired the digital streaming, EST, home video and merchandise rights for MR. OSOMATSU. Season One of the series was originally broadcast in Japan in 2015-2016, and Season Two is slated to start this Fall.

Forget double the fun because here’s a series that amps up the insanity six silly ways! The Matsuno sextuplets are quite a bunch. One’s always hanging out at the local Pachinko joint, one un-ironically wears sequined pants, one is a total otaku with a fancy for idols while another brother would rather just loaf around with some cats and his own ennui. The fifth brother loves baseball but was probably dropped on his head a couple times and then there’s the youngest, who really leans into that sweet baby brother angle, if you know what we mean. None of them have jobs, but they do have one heck of a tab run up at the local Oden stand! With so many brothers with too much time on their hands, there’s sure to be some crazy (and raunchy) adventures!

“MR. OSOMATSU depicts the hilarious exploits of the sextuplet Matsuno brothers, and each sibling’s unique personality and their fumbling antics will endear them to audiences,” explains VIZ Media Vice President of Animation Brian Ige. “Whether they are attempting to find employment or land girlfriends, the quirky lives of these brothers are never dull! We look forward to announcing more details on MR. OSOMATSU in coming months and to North American audiences discovering this fun series.”

The titles set for publication beginning in early 2018 include the shojo series TAKANE & HANA, a hilarious romance about a courtship of opposites; as well as THE YOUNG MASTER’S REVENGE, a shojo romantic comedy featuring a conniving boy who schemes to make a troublesome girl fall in love with him.

Also announced was THE ART OF THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY, a print-only hardcover edition set for release next Spring that will feature an extensive collection of production and concept art and other insights into the acclaimed film by Studio Ghibli.

VIZ Media also revealed plans to publish a volume of RWBY prequel stories based on the mega-popular RWBY animated series from Rooster Teeth. Previously available in the digital magazine WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP, the RWBY manga is written and illustrated by Shirow Miwa, who is widely acclaimed for his series DOGS: BULLETS AND CARNAGE (also published by VIZ Media).

Additional information on each of these titles will be announced in the near future.

Image Comics Announces "The Gravediggers Union"

WILD HORROR ABOUNDS IN THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION

PORTLAND, OR — DEADLY CLASS co-creator Wes Craig launches an all-new series with artist Toby Cypress (Omega Men) in THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION, a horror series—chock-full of steroid zombies, monster gods, swamp vampires, ghost storms, and space monkeys—set to launch this November.

“With The Gravediggers Union, I tried to create an environmental horror story that mixes E.C Comics, H.P. Lovecraft’s horror, and a lot of dark humour,” said Wes Craig. “I’m so proud of what we’re creating, and what Toby, Niko, and Jared are doing together is some of the most original looking comics I’ve ever seen.”

Toby Cypress added: “The Gravediggers Union is a dream project. Wes is writing and designing a fun world with mystery and humor, and I'm having a great time drawing it. I think you will see everybody involved is bringing their top effort to the title because the Gravediggers are a group that the world seems to need today. We are updating the horror genre while keeping its best aesthetics. A Ghostbusters for a hopeless age of digital social graveyards, bloodsucking brand awareness, trolling zombie followers, and creeping death landfills.”

The Gravediggers Union is the story of Cole, Ortiz, and Haley, three members of a brotherhood who bury the dead in the day and make sure they stay buried at night. The supernatural world has gone haywire, and it’s all tied to a powerful cult called The Black Temple. They want to unleash ancient dark gods and bring about the end of mankind. At the centre of their plan is Morgan, prophet of the coming apocalypse and Cole’s estranged daughter. Can Cole save his daughter? Can the Gravediggers save mankind? And do we even deserve to be saved?

THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION #1 (Diamond Code SEP170600) will be available in stores on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017. The final order cutoff from retailers is Monday, October 9th, 2017.

Advance praise for THE GRAVEDIGGERS UNION:

Wes and Toby set up an eerie world where the supernatural seeps from every corner and our only hope of salvation comes from an intriguingly dysfunctional band sent to put them back under ground. Fast, fun and beautifully rendered.” —Rick Remender

Craig and Cypress' The Gravediggers Union is like BPRD with added WTF. This book is loaded with character and a visual flair that will drop your jaw straight to the ground” —Declan Shalvey

Sony Pictures Television Announces "Carter" with Sydney Poitier and Jerry O'Connell

SONY PICTURES TELEVISION NETWORKS COMMISSIONS NEW DETECTIVE PROCEDURAL, "CARTER," STARRING JERRY O'CONNELL AND SYDNEY POITIER

Sony Pictures Television Networks has commissioned "Carter," a new series starring Jerry O'Connell ("Billions") and Sydney Poitier ("Chicago P.D."), for its international channels, including AXN.

In "Carter," Harley Mackay (O'Connell) is a detective on a hit American TV show who is forced to return to his sleepy hometown after an embarrassing public meltdown in Hollywood. Once back, Carter taps into his acting experience to become a real-life detective, partnering with long-time friend and no-nonsense veteran of the force, Sam St. Clair (Poitier).

"Our channels are hungry for easy to watch, easy to program procedurals, and 'Carter' more than fills that void. It delivers both star power and self-contained crime stories with a comedic edge. The scripts are smart and charming, and Jerry and Sydney are great together. We love this show for our channels," said Marie Jacobson, EVP, Programming and Production for Sony Pictures Television Networks.

"Carter" is a 10-episode, hour-long, light-hearted detective procedural. The series was written and created by Garry Campbell ("MADtv") and developed with writer John Tinker ("Chicago Hope"). It is produced by Amaze Film + Television. Executive producers are Amaze Film + Television's Teza Lawrence and Michael Souther ("The Stanley Dynamic" and "Call Me Fitz"). Scott Smith ("The Magicians", "Skins") directs the pilot. Amaze will handle distribution in Canada and Sony Pictures Television Distribution will handle U.S. and international sales of the series.

"Carter" begins principal photography in July in North Bay, Ontario.

Sony Pictures Television Networks president, Andy Kaplan, added, "Strong original programming is key to differentiating our networks around the world, and during this time of rapid change in the industry, it also gives us greater flexibility in developing new advertising and distribution models."

'Carter' is Sony Pictures Television Networks' second global original production to be announced this year. "Absentia," a dramatic thriller starring Stana Katic and Patrick Heusinger, premiered at the Monte Carlo Television Festival on June 16, and will debut on select Sony networks this fall.

Jerry O'Connell is represented by ICM Partners, 3 Arts Entertainment, and attorney Steve Burkow (Ziffren Brittenham). Sydney Poitier is represented by ICM Partners and Thruline Entertainment.
