VIZ Media to Publish Shinsuke Nakamura Bio "King of Strong Style: 1980-2014"
VIZ MEDIA STEPS INTO THE WORLD OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING FOR THE RELEASE OF KING OF STRONG STYLE: 1980-2014
Gripping Autobiography Of Japanese Pro Wrestling Star Shinsuke “The Artist” Nakamura Set For Release This Summer
San Francisco, CA – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), a premier company in the fields of publishing, animation distribution, and global entertainment licensing, springs into the wild world of professional wrestling as it announces the acquisition of the English-language publishing rights for KING OF STRONG STYLE: 1980-2014.
Originally published in two paperback volumes in Japan, (1980-2004, 2004-2015), the autobiography of one of Japan’s greatest professional wrestlers, Shinsuke Nakamura, will be released as a single-volume hardcover print edition as well as a digital edition by VIZ Media in the summer of 2018. Both hard copy and digital releases will feature select color and b&w photographs.
Nakamura now appears weekly on USA Network’s Tuesday night program, Smackdown Live, which has over 2 million weekly viewers, where he is frequently featured in the main event match-ups.
Before he became a star of American professional wrestling, Shinsuke Nakamura was Japan’s “King of Strong Style.” His autobiography traces an amazing life and career from the amateur grappling ranks to the Nippon Budokan. Thrill to his matches against such legends as Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, his reign as the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and his success as a mixed martial artist.
“Professional wrestling is at the crossroads of extreme sports, over-the-top theatre and pop culture, and Shinsuke Nakamura, already a huge star in Japan, is seeing his star rising fast among millions of U.S. fans,” says Masumi Washington, Sr. Director, Publishing Production. “His autobiography, a riveting story depicting one man’s quest to conquer the world both inside and outside the wrestling ring, is a unique and special addition to the VIZ Media catalog.”
Born in Kyoto, February 24, 1980, Shinsuke Nakamura began amateur wrestling in high school before attending university at Aoyama Gakuin University. After a brilliant career there, he joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling in March 2002 and made his professional debut at Nippon Budokan in a match against Tadao Yasuda on August 29, 2002. On December 9, 2003, a mere sixteen months into his professional career, he crushed Hiroshi Tenzan and was crowned the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history. Even as he pursued greatness in the professional wrestling ring, Nakamura participated in MMA, facing Daniel Gracie of the legendary jiu-jitsu family, and superheavyweight kickboxing champion Alexey Ignashov. Now he thrills fans in the United States and beyond on a weekly basis as one of the top wrestlers in the world.

Review: "Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon" a Cool Cartoon
TRASH IN MY EYE No. 12 (of 2017) by Leroy Douresseaux
Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon (2016) – Video
Running time: 100 minutes (1 hour, 40 minutes)
DIRECTORS: Tim Divar, Brandon Vietti
WRITERS: Ernie Altbacker; from a story by Matt Wayne
PRODUCER: Brandon Vietti
EDITORS: Keef Bartkus and Philip Malamuth
COMPOSER: Ryan Shore
ANIMATION STUDIO: Digital eMation, Inc.
ANIMATION/FANTASY/FAMILY and ACTION/COMEDY/MYSTERY
Starring: (voices) Frank Welker, Matthew Lillard, Grey Griffin, Kate Micucci, Steven J. Blum, Eric Bauza, and Phil Morris; from WWE: The Undertaker, Kofi Kingston, Diego, Fernando, El Torito, Goldust, Stardust, The Miz, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, Paige, Dusty Rhodes, Lana, Rusev, Michael Cole, and Vince McMahon
Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon is a 2016 straight-to-video animated comedy mystery. It is the 27th animated movie in the Scooby-Doo straight-to-video series from Warner Bros. Animation. This series began in 1998 with Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. In Curse of the Speed Demon, Mystery Inc. is hired to solve the mystery of a phantom racer plaguing a WWE road race. This film is also a co-production between WWE Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.
Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon begins some time after Mystery Inc. helped the WWE (Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment) superstars solve the mystery of the “ghost bear” (known as “Vicious”). Shaggy Rogers (Matthew Lillard) and Scooby-Doo (Frank Welker) are operating a food truck at WWE's latest venture, a road race called “WWW's Muscle Moro X Off Road Challenge.”
The race's participants are WWE superstars like The Undertaker and Dusty Rhodes, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, to name a few. During a preliminary round of the race, a demon racer known as “Inferno,” disrupts the race, injuring Rhodes. Needing a new partner, The Undertaker takes on Shaggy (a.k.a. “Skinny Man”) and Scooby-Doo (a.k.a. “Dead Meat”). The trio becomes “Team Taker” and races in “The Scoobinator.”
Meanwhile, WWE boss, Mr. McMahon, hires the rest of Mystery Inc. gang: Fred Jones (Frank Welker), Daphne Blake (Grey Griffin), and Velma Dinkley (Kate Micucci), to solve the mystery of Inferno. However, the young mystery-solvers suspect that Inferno is actually a WWE superstar!
I have failed you, dear readers. I cannot explain why I like Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon. It is not a great movie, but I find quite entertaining. What are some of the things that I like.
I am not a fan of WWE, but I found these cartoon versions of select WWE superstars likable, especially The Undertaker. The cartoon Stephanie McMahon seems personable. I found myself attracted to “Team Taker” and their racing vehicles. All the elements that make up monster/villain Inferno make him a good bad guy.
Of course, when it comes down to it, I am a lifelong fan of Scooby-Doo and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang. I don't really want to go to long without seeing them, and yes, I have come across some poor Scooby-Doo direct-to-DVD films. Scooby-Doo! and WWE: Curse of the Speed Demon is not one of them.

Documentary About the Life of "Andre the Giant" Headed to HBO
"ANDRE THE GIANT” to Debut on HBO
NEW YORK & STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HBO Sports, WWE® (NYSE:WWE) and the Bill Simmons Media Group will produce ANDRE THE GIANT, a documentary film examining the life and career of one of the most beloved legends in WWE history, it was announced today by Kevin Dunn, WWE Executive Producer, and Peter Nelson, Executive Vice President, HBO Sports. The ambitious and wide-ranging documentary film will explore Andre’s upbringing in France, his celebrated career in WWE and his forays in the entertainment world.
“I will always value our friendship, and I am proud to tell the story of the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’.”
“For more than 20 years, Andre the Giant’s larger than life personality and unique charisma captured the imagination of fans around the world,” said WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon. “I will always value our friendship, and I am proud to tell the story of the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’.”
Bill Simmons, who joined HBO in the summer of 2015 and founded The Ringer, will serve as an executive producer of the film. “Going back to 2007 and 2008 when I was creating and developing ‘30 for 30’ for ESPN, Andre’s story rode the top of every single sports documentary wish list I ever made,” said Simmons. “We always hear about unicorns these days – Andre was the ultimate unicorn. He’s a true legend. Everyone who ever crossed paths with him has an Andre story – and usually four or five. I’m delighted to join forces with Jason Hehir and WWE so we can capture Andre’s amazing story once and for all.”
Emmy®-Award winning director and producer Jason Hehir will serve as the film’s director. HBO Sports and WWE are partnering for the first time ever on this full-length signature presentation, which will combine never-before-seen footage and revealing interviews for a comprehensive and intimate portrait of one of WWE’s most beloved, yet largely unknown figures. Interviews will include WWE Superstars, sports and entertainment executives, athletes, media, family, friends and associates.
André René Roussimoff was born in 1946 in Grenoble, France. Early in his teenage years, he exhibited signs of gigantism, rapidly growing to more than seven feet, though he was not diagnosed with acromegaly until his twenties. He began his training in Paris at 17 and eventually became known in wrestling circuits around the world, including Europe, Australia and Africa. In 1970, Roussimoff made his Japanese debut, which put him on the radar of Vince McMahon Sr., founder of what is now known as World Wrestling Entertainment.
In 1973, Andre joined the organization where McMahon Sr. famously billed him as Andre the Giant. Andre’s unique voice and athletic prowess, coupled with his more than 500-pound, seven-foot, four-inch frame, made him an unforgettable attraction.
During his ascension to the top of the ranks, Andre engaged in memorable matches with Killer Khan, Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy and compiled an undefeated streak that lasted for the better part of a decade. In 1987, Andre hit the pinnacle of his career during his rivalry with Hulk Hogan, one of the biggest stars in WWE and pop culture history. As a new villain, Andre squared off with Hogan at WrestleMania® III at the Silverdome in Michigan, and in one of the most memorable moments in history, Hogan body-slammed Andre to retain the championship in front of 93,173 fans.
While wrestling’s fan base continued to grow, Roussimoff’s health began to decline. Despite his health issues, the “Eighth Wonder of the World” remained at the forefront during the company’s golden era. Following WrestleMania III, Andre took on other WWE Legends such as Jake “The Snake” Roberts™, “Macho Man” Randy Savage™ and The Ultimate Warrior® and participated in numerous marquee events until 1991. Andre became the first-ever inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1993.
Roussimoff’s larger-than-life personality also allowed him to pursue a career in acting. He appeared in television sitcoms and films during the ‘70s and ‘80s, often playing himself or some variation of a human giant, and is remembered for his role as Fezzik in Rob Reiner’s classic “The Princess Bride.”
Outside the ring, Andre Roussimoff was a gentle giant. The subject of stares and ridicule for his size throughout his life, he was a self-declared introvert. On Jan. 27, 1993, Andre Roussimoff succumbed to his gigantism and died of congestive heart failure. And while WWE has had a memorable cast of larger-than-life stars during the two decades since his passing, Andre the Giant is still remembered as one of the greatest.
