"Inhuman" Writer Charles Soule Announced for 2015 Baltimore Comic-Con

Charles Soule Comics to the 2015 Baltimore Comic-Con

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - The 16th annual Baltimore Comic-Con will be held on September 25-27, 2015 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore's historic Inner Harbor. In 2015, we are welcoming back to our show for his 3rd visit rising comics star Charles Soule.

Originally from the American Midwest, Soule received his undergraduate degree in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and went on to live in the Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong before returning to the States to live in New York. Returning to school, Soule graduated with a law degree from Columbia Law School, and is a practicing attorney in New York City.

Soule's comics writing career launched with the publication of his graphic novel Strongman from SLG Publishing in 2009. In 2010, Image Comics launched his comic, 27, a 4-issue mini-series, followed in 2011 by 27: Second Set.

In 2011, Soule started working for DC Comics, taking on such high-profile titles as Action Comics, Green Lantern, and Superman, and eventually writing runs on Red Lanterns, Swamp Thing, Legends of the Dark Knight, and Superman/Wonder Woman.

As of 2013, Soule began work for Marvel Comics, starting on Thunderbolts, and signing an exclusive agreement in 2014, putting out noteworthy arcs on Death of Wolverine, Inhumans, She-Hulk, and Wolverines.

Soule continues to pen creator-owned titles too, including Strange Attractors from Archaia and the ongoing Letter 44 from Oni Press, which was recently optioned for development by the SyFy Network. You can find his work this year on Marvel's Wolverines, Uncanny Inhumans, Inhuman, Inhumans; Attilan Rising, and Oni Press's Letter 44.

Upcoming NYU Course Explores Superman and Intellectual Property

NEW NYU COURSE EXPLORES INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THROUGH COMIC BOOKS

The Trials of Superman (and his Super Friends)

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a ... Law Course?  Yes a law course using that strange visitor from another planet to help explain copyright and trademark law. NYU's School of Professional Studies presents The Trials of Superman (and his Super Friends).

Taught by Entertainment and Intellectual Property lawyer Howard Leib, the course will look at the history of Superman, and how his name and likeness, and those of other super heroes, have been used and litigated through the decades.  Students will explore copyright infringement, trademark matters, copyright reversion and other issues that have arisen during the Man of Steel’s career.  They'll also read some comics and watch some cartoons.

The course will run from Monday April 15 to Wednesday May 15, 2015. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Howard Leib, Esq., is an attorney with over thirty years’ experience in intellectual property law, entertainment law and general corporate law. He has represented clients such as KISS, Whitney Houston, Bobby McFerrin, and Judy Collins as well as corporations such as Atlantic Records, Universal Entertainment, and Rhino Entertainment. Howard carved out a niche for himself in the area of children’s entertainment, and has been called America’s leading children’s entertainment attorney by Billboard Magazine.

In addition to NYU, Howard has taught for National Paralegal College, Fashion Institute of Technology, and Kaplan University. He has produced CDs and DVDs, usually related to comedy or television. He is active in the New York Democratic Lawyers Council, working to protect and expand voter rights. He is chair emeritus of the Cardozo School of Law alumni association and a past member of Cardozo’s Board of Trustees.

Howard lives in Ithaca, NY, where he moved after a lifetime in and around New York City, to be with his wife Marcie. Since moving to Ithaca, Howard has run as the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for New York State Senate from the 51st Senatorial District and successfully sued the NYS Board of Elections over the issue of redistricting. Museum of Science Presents World Premiere of The Science Behind Pixar
Exhibition Offers A Unique, First-Time Look Into the Pixar Process

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--This summer, visitors to the Museum of Science, Boston will be inspired by the science and technology behind some of the most beloved animated films and their characters, with the world premiere of The Science Behind Pixar. This interactive 10,000 square foot exhibition showcases the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts used by the artists and computer scientists who help bring Pixar’s award-winning films to the big screen.

Created by the Museum of Science and Pixar, and featuring more than 40 interactive exhibit elements, The Science Behind Pixar demonstrates the technology that supports the creativity and artistry of Pixar’s storytellers. The exhibition is broken into eight distinct sections, each focusing on a step of the filmmaking process – Modeling, Rigging, Surfaces, Sets & Cameras, Animation, Simulation, Lighting and Rendering – providing visitors with a unique view of the production pipeline and concepts used at Pixar every day. Visitors of all ages will engage in and learn about the filmmaking process through hands-on activities inspired by some of Pixar’s most treasured films, from the first-ever computer animated feature film Toy Story, which opened nearly two decades ago, to Pixar’s newest film, Inside Out, releasing in June 2015.

“The Science Behind Pixar is a behind-the-scenes look at how our movies are made," said Ed Catmull, president of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios. "The interactive exhibition gives people the opportunity to learn about the jobs our filmmakers do every day and tackle similar problems. The Science Behind Pixar offers a variety of hands-on activities that empower visitors to imagine the STEM concepts behind Pixar’s films in a fun, engaging format. To better understand the science and math that goes into creating the worlds and characters of Pixar’s films, visitors will hear first-hand from members of the studios’ production teams. They will also be invited to experience different roles within the production pipeline, through screen-based activities and physical interactive exhibits. In Sets & Cameras, for example, visitors will discover how a bugs-eye view was achieved for A Bug’s Life, through camera angles and large-set design within the computer.

Visitors will envision how digital sculptures are created based on sketches from artists in Modeling, and explore Lighting to solve challenges similar to what Pixar artists faced in creating animated water with virtual light in Finding Nemo. Rigging showcases how the models are given a virtual skeleton to enable the animators to add movement, and in Surfaces, visitors can immerse themselves in the techniques behind adding color and texture to every surface in a film. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take their photo with human-size recreations of many of their favorite Pixar film characters, including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL•E.

“Throughout the exhibition, visitors will engage in hands-on, screen-based, and physical activities that let them explore the computational thinking skills behind Pixar’s process in a compelling and participatory way,” said Ioannis Miaoulis, Museum president and director. “The Science Behind Pixar explores the creativity and artistry of the Pixar filmmakers, highlighting how computers are used as a filmmaking tool. Black Mask's "The Disciples" Comic Book Headed to Cable Television

THE DISCIPLES marks Black Mask's latest foray into TV, joining the adaptation of FIVE GHOSTS that Black Mask has in development at Syfy with Evan Daugherty (Snow White And The Huntsman) writing the pilot.

THE DISCIPLES is a sci-fi/horror story about a team of interstellar private eyes tracking down a girl who's run off to join a cult on Jupiter's moon Ganymede... it's 'True Detective in space' brought to you courtesy of Steve Niles (30 DAYS OF NIGHT) and Christopher Mitten (UMBRAL).
