Space Ghost is a superhero character created by the American animation studio and production company, Hanna-Barbera Productions.  The character first appeared in the Saturday morning cartoon series, “Space Ghost,” which was originally broadcast on CBS from September 1966 to September 1967 for 20 episodes.  Space Ghost shared his television series with a second feature, entitled “Dino Boy in the Lost Valley.”  Space Ghost was designed by cartoonist and comic book artist, Alex Toth (1928-2006), who created the character with Hanna-Barbera's founders, William Hanna (1910-2001) and Joseph Barbera (1911-2006).

In his original incarnation, Space Ghost was a superhero whose base of operations was a small world known as “Ghost Planet.”  He fought super-villains in outer space with his teen sidekicks, Jan and Jace, and their monkey, Blip.  His main weapons were power bands he wore around his wrists and lower arms; the bands fired off multiple energy beam-based attacks, including heat, cold, and force, to name a few.  Space Ghost could also fly, survive in space, and turn invisible (his “Inviso Power”).  He also had a space ship known as “the Phantom Cruiser.”

Space Ghost sporadically appeared in various comic book publications over a fifty year period.  Dynamite Entertainment has just launched a new Space Ghost comic book as part of its licensing agreement with Warner Bros.  Entitled Space Ghost Volume 2, it is written by David Pepose; drawn by Jonathan Lau; colored by Andrew Dalhouse; and lettered by Taylor Esposito.

Space Ghost Volume 2 #1 (“The Toymaker Strikes...”) opens as Space Ghost, the Guardian of the Spaceways, battles the villainous Toymaker who has hijacked an amusement park planet and is holding the visitors hostage.  Toymaker is proving to be a formidable opponent, but Space Ghost has decided to play his game.  Plus, he has a wildcard – Blip.

Meanwhile, Jan and Jace are guests at the mansion of Doctor Henry Contra, their maternal grandfather.  As the twins describe what Space Ghost means to them, Dr. Contra is formulating other plan.

THE LOWDOWN:  Since July 2021, Dynamite Entertainment's marketing department has been providing me with PDF review copies of some of their titles.  Space Ghost Volume 2 #1 is the latest, but it is not the first Space Ghost comic book that I have read.

David Pepose and Jonathan Lau have returned to what seems to be their goal – tell the best Space Ghost stories in almost 60 years.  In launching this second volume of their Space Ghost run, they offer a one-off story that establishes both the determination of Space Ghost and the focus of Jan and Jace as they chart their respective futures.  There hints of trouble to come, but this is a good introductory issue for new readers and a hugely satisfactory treat for returning readers.

Andrew Dalhouse's colors are still fire, burning through the action of this story.  Taylor Esposito is still delivering classic comics font, perhaps making an argument that he is the definitive Space Ghost comic book letterer.

I highly recommend Space Ghost Volume 2, as I did the first volume.  This first issue is well worth many American dollars, dear readers.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Fans of Dynamite Entertainment's Warner Bros. comic book series will want to read Space Ghost Volume 2.

SUMMARY OF REVIEW:
-- “Final Destination Bloodlines” is the best “Final Destination” film in over 20 years. It has a great opening, a 19-minute prologue, and the rest of film takes on a race against time as Death stalks a bloodline.

-- The film gets two solid scream queen performances from Kaitlyn Santa Juana and Brec Bassinger, good enough to make us feel sad about their ultimate fates...


Final Destination Bloodlines is a 2025 supernatural horror film from directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B Stein.  It is the sixth entry in the Final Destination film series.  Bloodlines follows a young woman whose recurring nightmares are warnings of the horrific fate that awaits her family.

Final Destination Bloodline introduces college student Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana).  Recently, she has been plagued by recurring nightmares about a disaster from some time in the past.  It involves her maternal grandmother, Iris Campbell (Brec Bassinger), and her then-boyfriend and later husband, Paul (Max Lloyd-Jones).  Almost six decades ago, Iris and Paul attended the grand opening of the Sky View Tower (which is similar to the real-life “Space Needle” in Seattle Washington).

Stefani's nightmares usually end in tragedy with Iris, Paul, and the others at the opening dying horrible deaths.  However, Iris and Paul did attend the grand opening of the Sky View Tower and lived.  Now, Stefani wants to find Iris, her grandmother, whom she has never met, but her father, Marty Reyes (Tinpo Lee), is resistant to the idea.  He barely even wants to speak about Stefani and her brother, Charlie's (Teo Briones), estranged mother, Darlene Campbell (Rya Kihlstedt), who is both Iris' daughter and Marty's wife; Darlene abandoned the family long ago.  Dysfunctional family aside, Stefani knows that she must find the now elderly Iris (Gabrielle Rose) if she is going to discover the cause of her nightmares.  Stefani will have to hurry, as Death is already stalking her family.

Final Destination Bloodlines is set about a decade and a half after the events depicted in the series' fourth film, The Final Destination (2009).  The fifth film, Final Destination 5 (2011), actually takes place around the same time as the events depicted in the original film, Final Destination (2000).

I did not realize how long it had been between the fifth film and the arrival of Final Destination Bloodlines.  The Final Destination franchise is one of the few horror film franchises that have been consistently good, with only 2006's Final Destination 3 being a slight misstep.  The first 19 minutes of Final Destination Bloodlines had me mesmerized, and I can call this prologue (of sorts) heart-pounding because it certainly had my aging ticker pounding in my chest.

The rest of the film does not have the same edge-of-your-seat thrills, but its focus on death stalking one particular family and bloodline makes the entire film seem crazy, surreal, and creepy.  The entire film is braced by two pitch perfect horror film performances.  Brec Bassinger as young Iris Campbell in the first 19 minutes and Kaitlyn Santa Juana as the heroine in the film's present day turn in tight and riveting “scream queen” performances.

As a side note, Final Destination Bloodlines is dedicated to the late actor, Tony Todd (1954-2024).  Although best known for playing the lead role the 1992 horror film, Candyman, and its two sequels, Todd is also known for playing the recurring role of “William Bludworth” in the Final Destination franchise.  Todd died of stomach cancer in 2024, but he was able to film all his scenes for Bloodlines before his passing.  He appears gaunt in this film, likely due to the ravages of his cancer, but I was happy to see him.  Todd got a good send off for his character.  Also, as movie fans, we have been gifted one of the series' best entries in Final Destination Bloodlines.

TELEVISION - From Variety:  "Dexter: Origins" will not get a Season 2, although it was initially renewed.  "Dexter: Resurrection" is getting its writers room ready for a Season 2.

MUSIC - From EW:  TV and musical icon, Donny Osmond, talks about the "offensive" advice he once got from his friend, the late cultural icon and legendary entertainer, Michael Jackson.

MOVIES - From WorldofReel:  There is a trailer for "Anemone," the first film starring Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis in eight years.  The film is also the directorial debut of Daniel's son, Ronan Day-Lewis.

MOVIES - From Deadline:  The cast of director Doug Liman's XR (Extended Reality) sci-fi thriller, "Asteroid."  Among the cast is Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, DK Metcalf (formerly of the Seattle Seahawks).

TELEVISION - From Variety:  MSNBC will change its name to "MS Now" once it and several cable networks are separated from their corporate parent, NBCUniversal, into a new publicly traded company called "Versant."

BOX OFFICE - From BoxOfficePro:  The winner of the 8/15 to 8/17/2025 weekend box office is Warner Bros' "Weapons" with an estimated take of 25 million dollars.

NETFLIX - From Deadline: Quentin Tarantino explains why he is not directing "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," a Netflix spinoff of his film, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."  David Fincher is directing the film.

OBIT:

From Variety:  The English actor, Terence Stamp, has died at the age of 87, Sunday, August 17, 2025.  His breakout performance in the film, "Billy Budd" (1962), earned him an Oscar nomination for "Best Supporting Actor."  Three years later, Stamp received a "Best Actor Award" at the Cannes Film Festival" for "The Collector" (1965).  His best known film roles include "General Zod" in "Superman II" (1981), "Bernadette Bassenger" in "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" (1994), "Wilson" in "The Limey" (1999), and "Supreme Chancellor Fenis Valorum" in "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" (1999).
