Dark Horse Comics Announces Geof Darrow Art Book

Dark Horse Comics Unleashes "Lead Poisoning: The Pencil Art of Geof Darrow"

An Oversized Hardcover to be Published in 2017 Along with a New Edition of "Hard Boiled" and "The Shaolin Cowboy: Who’ll Stop the Reign?"

MILWAUKIE, Ore.—Geof Darrow’s slick, precise inks and stunning detail have amazed comics fans for decades, from his early work with Moebius to Hard Boiled, his first collaboration with Frank Miller, to the overwhelming success of his current series, The Shaolin Cowboy. Now Darrow provides incredible insight into his process by sharing the pencil drawings behind his meticulous inks in a huge hardcover collection, Lead Poisoning: The Pencil Art of Geof Darrow. Dark Horse Comics will release the oversized 128 page book, 9x12” HC and priced at $34.99, in July 2017 ahead of Darrow’s appearance at San Diego Comic Con.

Featuring well-known covers and never-before-seen drawings alike, Lead Poisoning is a behind-the-scenes look that reveals perfectionism at its best, showing how clean and perfect the initial drawings can be as well as the bizarre alterations that appear to happen on the fly. Featuring commentary by Darrow and his notable peers, Lead Poisoning: The Pencil Art of Geof Darrow is a hardcover that brings you right to Darrow’s drawing board.

“Geof Darrow is one of the most talented creators to ever work in comics,” said Dark Horse Comics Publisher Mike Richardson “In 2017 Dark Horse is proud to be celebrating over two decades of his amazing art with the release of Lead Poisoning, along with a brand new edition of Hard Boiled, the iconic graphic novel he created with comics legend Frank Miller. Not one to rest on his laurels, Geof is also busy creating mayhem with new, adventures of his epic character, the Shaolin Cowboy. ” In April, Dark Horse will publish the first issue of a new four-part mini-series by Darrow and award winning colorist Dave Stewart, The Shaolin Cowboy: Who’ll Stop the Reign? In September, Dark Horse will release a new edition of Hard Boiled, featuring a new introduction by Frank Miller and recolored by Stewart.

Before he was a Three-time Eisner Award winner (and loser), Geof Darrow was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. He is an ex-altar boy, garden mechanic and boom operator on a soft-core adult film. He resides in Chicago IL and his artwork inspires and disillusions fans and artists alike:

Geof Darrow is a master . . . His combination of technical ability and a genuinely individual voice is an inspiration for me and for generations of other artists across the world.”—Frank Quitely

Trying to describe Geof Darrow’s work to someone unfamiliar with it is a little like trying to describe a waterfall to someone who’s never seen water. It’s tranquil above the falls, a thrill ride down the slope, and explosively lethal at the bottom of the cataract.”—Walter Simonson

"No one draws violence quite like Geof Darrow.”—NEW YORK MAGAZINE’s VULTURE

Geof Darrow is without a doubt one of the best creators in our field, meticulous, a superb craftsman, and in Shaolin Cowboy Geof becomes a master choreographer, making the battle scenes a vivid and nightmarish vision of Dante’s Inferno.”—Sergio Aragonés

A profound sense of the absurd encapsulated in elegant line. Darrow has crafted high-definition realities since before hi-def was even a thing!”—Duncan Fegredo

Geof Darrow experiments with the versatility of the comic book format and, damn, does he have the skills to back it up."—FREAK SUGAR

To say that Geof Darrow is unique is a bit of an understatement. I think he’s just plain brilliant.”—Mike Mignola

At #SDCC2016 Dark Horse Announces "Son of the Harpy" Figure from "Game of Thrones"

Dark Horse Deluxe Reveals New Character in Line of “Game of Thrones®” Figures

SAN DIEGO, CA —Dark Horse Deluxe, an imprint of Dark Horse Comics, has revealed the latest figure in an ongoing series of characters from the critically acclaimed HBO® series Game of Thrones®—Son of the Harpy.

The Sons of the Harpy is an underground insurgency group composed of former slavers who are fighting the rule of Daenerys Targaryen over Meereen. They take their name from the harpy, the heraldic symbol of the slave masters in the Ghiscari cities of Slaver’s Bay. They conceal their identities by wearing golden masks with horned faces resembling harpies.

Dark Horse Deluxe’s detailed figure represents one of the many Sons of the Harpy seen on HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones.

Son of the Harpy will be the twenty-fifth figure in the series and is slated for in-store release in October of 2016.

“The Dark Horse Game of Thrones figure series, with over twenty-five characters produced so far, has become a collection. We thought the mysterious and dangerous Son of the Harpy was the perfect candidate to join the family,” Dark Horse Product Development head David Scroggy remarked.

The Son of the Harpy collectible will join seven additional Game of Thrones figures released in 2016: Ygritte, Margaery Tyrell, Oberyn Martell, Grey Worm, Varys, The Night King, and Stannis Baratheon.

Response to Dark Horse Deluxe’s Game of Thrones collectibles line has been tremendous, and additional characters and products are in development for release in fall and winter 2016.

Game of Thrones figures have a suggested retail price of $24.99 and are packaged in deluxe window box packaging.

Wonder Woman Forever Stamps Arrive in October

Wonder Woman’s 75th Anniversary to be Celebrated on Forever Stamps

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment, previewed four Forever stamps today that commemorate the 75th anniversary of one of the most iconic Super Heroes of all time — Wonder Woman. The stamp pane will be among other Wonder Woman related items revealed at 3 p.m., Sat., July 23, 2016 at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2016. The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony will take place Oct. 7 at New York Comic-Con, Friday, October 7, 2016.

Fans are encouraged to share the news on social media using the hashtags #WonderWomanForever and #WonderWoman75.

First seen in October 1941 in a back-up story for All Star Comics #8, meant to test her appeal at a time when female superheroes were rare, Wonder Woman quickly broke out and headlined her own title by the next year. Subsequent generations came to know the star-spangled heroine with metal bracelets on her wrists and a magic lasso by her waist via her hit 1975-79 television series and roles in animated shows and movies, as well as her historic appearance on the cover Ms. Magazine #1 in 1972. This past March, Wonder Woman was seen for the first time in a live action motion picture with her introduction in the movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

The U.S. Postal Service celebrates her diamond anniversary by chronicling her evolution on Forever stamps from her World War II origins to today. This new issuance showcases four different stamp designs on a sheet of 20 stamps depicting Wonder Woman during four eras of comic book history:  Golden Age (1941–55), Silver Age (1956–72), Bronze Age (1973–86) and Modern Age (1987–present). The selvage, or text outside of the stamp images, features the current block-letter Wonder Woman logo in white against a comic book style power burst rendered in shades of blue.

On the first row of stamps Wonder Woman of the Modern Age wields a hammer with a power and determination befitting her roots in the heroic world of Greek mythology.

The Bronze Age Wonder Woman’s bold stance empowers the second row of stamps. With her fist held high and bulletproof bracelets gleaming, the Amazon princess leads the charge against injustice.

The third row of stamps depicts Wonder Woman during the Silver Age. Although she possesses great strength and speed, the world’s favorite superheroine prefers compassion to the use of brute force. With her golden lasso of truth close at hand, she compels honesty from her foes.

In the last row of stamps, Wonder Woman from the Golden Age bursts onto the scene as originally envisioned by creator William Moulton Marston.

Art director Greg Breeding of Charlottesville, VA, designed the stamp pane. The Wonder Woman stamps will be issued as Forever stamps and always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.

Not Her First “Stamping Ovation”

In 2006, Wonder Woman was part of the Postal Service’s first stamp pane honoring comic book superheroes. Half of the stamps on the DC Super Heroes pane depicted portraits of the characters; the others highlighted covers of individual comic books devoted to their exploits. Wonder Woman was joined by Aquaman, Batman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Plastic Man, Supergirl and Superman. The first-day-of-issuance ceremony took place at Comic-Con in San Diego. [Wonder Woman - Art by Ross Andru & Mike Esposito]

Wonder Woman has been an iconic inspiration for countless women and men since her debut in All Star Comics #8 in December 1941. The most recognizable female character in comics, created by William Moulton Marston, she remains a figure of strength, beauty, and courage. [Wonder Woman #22 (2nd series) - Nov. 1988 - Art by George Pérez]

As a worldwide ambassador of justice, equality and peace, Wonder Woman soared to new heights in the late 1980s. The character returned to her roots as an Amazon warrior from Paradise Island, land of heroic women. Her special powers were gifts from the Olympians.

Visit this link for news on upcoming stamp events.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

THE STAKES ARE HIGH, THE NIGHTS ARE LONG, AND BUFFY HAS TO SAVE THE WORLD…AGAIN

Dark Horse and Joss Whedon announce “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Season 11

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Dark Horse is excited to announce the next installment in Joss Whedon’s Buffy comics series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11. The talented comics duo of Christos Gage (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10, Avengers Academy) and Rebekah Isaacs (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10, Angel & Faith) returns with more shenanigans from the Scoobies.

After overcoming the struggles of Season 10, Buffy and the Scoobies give themselves a well-deserved break from fighting evil. Unfortunately, the momentary peace comes to a screeching halt when a supernatural disaster wreaks havoc on the citizens of San Francisco, and the gang is forced to save the world from imminent doom, again.

Buffy Season 10 writer Christos Gage described his excitement for the next season of the beloved supernatural thriller: “Buffy fans have been wonderful to Rebekah and me throughout Season 10, so I couldn’t be more excited to keep our creative team together for Season 11! True to form, Joss is not content to just rest on his well-earned laurels, so Season 11 will shake things up with a story that’s shorter, bigger, more epic, and presents what may be the greatest challenge Buffy and the Scoobies have ever faced. We hope the readers will enjoy the ride!”
