Negromancer's 2025-26 Movie Awards Season News - UPDATE #31

The Hollywood movie award season begins in November/December and ends in February/March with the announcement of the Academy Awards ("the Oscars") by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

The 2025-2026 movie awards season began in November 2025 and will end Sunday, March 15, 2026 with the 98th Academy Awards ceremony. This page will track the winners of various movie awards handed out by various organization, especially critics groups and Hollywood guilds, such as the Producers Guild (PGA), Directors Guild (DGA), and Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

MOVIE AWARDS 2025-26:

From Oscars: Here are the nominees for the 2026 / 98th Academy Awards (honoring movies released in 2025). The ceremony will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026 in the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood.

From Variety: The winners at the 2026 / 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) have been announced. "One Battle After Another" won six awards, including "Best Film" and "Best Director" (Paul Thomas Anderson).

From Forbes: The winners at the 2026 / 57th NAACP Image Awards have been announced. Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" won 13 awards, including "Outstanding Motion Picture," "Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture" (Ryan Coogler), and "Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture" (Michael B. Jordan).

From Variety: The winners at the 2026 / 32nd Actor Awards have been announced. "Sinners" won the night's top prize, "Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture." The film's lead actor, Michael B. Jordan, also won "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Lead Role."

From Deadline: Last week (Oct. 14th), the European Film Academy shortlisted the 67 films were available to receive nominations for the 38th European Film Awards, taking place on January 17, 2026. The shortlist included 44 feature films, 15 documentary films, and eight animated feature films. Among the list of feature films were "Bugonia" and "Sound of Falling." The nominations are scheduled to be announced today (Oct. 18th).

TIMOTHY BUSFIELD:

From CBS: Director and Emmy-winning actor, Timothy Busfield (Thirtysomething), surrendered to New Mexico authorities in answer to an arrest warrant for child sex abuse charges. The complaint involves twin brothers who claim that Busfield molested them on the set on the former Fox suspense drama, "The Cleaning Lady," for which Busfield was a series director.

From NBCNews: Already facing charges related to claims that he molested twin brothers on the set of a TV series where he was a director, Emmy-winner Timothy Busfield is also facing accusations that he kissed and inappropriately touch a 16-year-old girl years ago.

SCANDAL - From FoxNews: Actor Daniel Stern, best known for his roe in the "Home Alone" films, has been arrested for soliciting prostitution on Dec 12th at a motel in Camarillo, CA.

From FoxNews: Emmy-winning actor Keifer Sutherland ("24") has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a rideshare driver in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 12th. Sutherland was released on a $50 thousand bond.

TELEVISION - From Deadline: NBC has ordered a pilot for its reboot of its former detective drama, "The Rockford Files" (1974-80). In 1978, the series won the Primetime Emmy for "Outstand Drama Series." In 1977, the series star, the late James Garner (1928-2014), won the Primetime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama."

BUSINESS - From THR: Entertainer and businessman, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, has finalized a deal with Louisiana to invest 124 million dollars in a complex that includes three entertainment venues.

From RollingStone: American musician, songwriter, and recording artist, Bob Weir, has died at the age of 78, Saturday, January 10, 2026. In 1965, Weir was one of the five founding members of "the Warlocks," a "jug band" that would soon change its name to the "Grateful Dead." The Dead would become known for its improvisational live performances and for its devoted fans, called "Deadheads." In 1994, Weir was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Grateful Dead.

AWARDS - From CBR: The nominations for the 2026 / 83rd Golden Globes Awards have been announced. Cynthia Erivo received a "Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy" nod for playing "Elphaba" in "Wicked: For Good," while Ariana Grande was recognized in "Best Supporting Actress" for the role of "Glinda." Last year, both women received the nominations in the same categories for the same roles in the first film, "Wicked" (2024). This is a first in the history of the Golden Globes.

From Billboard: Cynthia Erivo has become the first Black woman to received two "Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy" Golden Globe nominations. She received her nomination for "Wicked: For Good" after receiving her first last year for "Wicked."

Among his best known work was playing the voice of "Captain Qwark" in the "Ratchet and Clank" video game series. He also voiced "Doug Dimmadome" and "Chet Ubetcha" in the long-running Nickelodeon animated series, "The Fairly OddParents." He also played voice roles in such series as "Ben 10," "Biker Mice from Mars," and "Wolverine and the X-Men," to name a few. In 2009, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for his work on "Biker Mice from Mars."

From TMZ: American actor, stand-up comedian, and voice performer, Jeff Garcia, has died at the age of 48, Wednesday, December 10, 2025. A beloved voice actor, Garcia was best known for performing the voice of the character, "Sheen Estevez," in the 2001 animated film, "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius;" and the Nickelodeon animation television spinoffs, "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" (2002-06) and "Planet Sheen" (2010-13). Garcia also played Sheen in other Nickelodeon "Jimmy Neutron" TV movies and specials. Garcia was also a series regular on the former syndicated sitcom, "Mr. Box Office" (2012-13).

AWARDS - From Deadline: The nominations for the 2025 / 77th Annual Directors Guild Awards have been announced. In the awards' marquee category, "Theatrical Feature Film," the nominees are Jacques Audiard ("Emilia Perez"), Sean Baker ("Anora"), Edward Berger ("Conclave"), Brady Corbet ("The Brutalist"), and James Mangold ("A Complete Unknown"). The winners will be announced February 8th.

From EW: The Screen Actors Guild has cancelled the 2025 / 31st SAG Awards nominations announcement live-stream because of the current wildfires sweeing through the Los Angeles area. The nominations will be announced Thursday morning, January 9th via press release and on SAG Awards website. The SAG Award ceremony will be hired Feb. 23rd.

CRIME - From LATimes: There are new details in the shooting death of actor Johnny Wactor ("General Hospital," "Siberia"). The 37-year-old actor died after being shot in the chest May 25, 2024 by one of three thieves who were stealing the catalytic converter from his 2013 Toyota Prius. At least two of the people involved are members of a South Los Angeles street gang. One of the thieves reportedly shouted, "No!," before his accomplice shot Wactor, whose funeral was held in June 2024 in his hometown of Summerville, South Carolina.

DISNEY - From USAToday: The result of FuboTV's lawsuit against Disney/Fox/Warner Bros. Discovery over their planned sports streaming service, "Venu Sports," is that Disney will merge "Hulu + Live" service with FuboTV. Disney will own 70 percent of the new service, and the merger will be finalized in the next 12 to 18 months.

His other work includes "Batman" (1989), "Chocolat" (2000), and "Troy" (2004), to name a few.

From Deadline: American singer, songwriter, and musician, Wayne Osmond, has died at the age of 73, Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Along with his brothers: Alan, Merrill, and Jay, he co-founded "The Osmonds," later known as "the Osmond Brothers." He was active from 1962 to 2019. His television appearances include "Donny & Marie" (1976-79), his siblings, Donny and Marie Osmond's ABC variety series.

From Deadline: Justin Baldoni, in the middle of legal issues with his "It Ends With Us" co-star, Blake Lively, has added a new front to the war with a strike against Lively's husband, superstar actor and producer Ryan Reynolds. Baldoni says that in Reynolds' recent worldwide hit, "Deadpool & Wolverine," the character, "Nicepool," is based upon him.

From Deadline: Studio executive, Steve Mensch, has died at the age of 62, Friday, December 6, 2024. Mensch was President and Manager of General Operations for Tyler Perry Studios. Mensch joined TPS in 2016 and oversaw the studio's transition to the former Fort McPherson Army Base in Atlanta, which was converted into a 330-acre film and TV production lot. Mensch died in a single-seat plane crash. He is survived by a wife and three children.
