INDIANA JONES - From Newsarama:  "Indiana Jones 5" may begin filming as early as April 2020, says Harrison Ford.  The film is due for release July 9, 2021.

JAMES BOND - From Variety:  Grammy-winner Billie Eilish released the audio of her theme song for the next James Bond film, "No Time to Die" (due April 10th).  Once again, the song is a collaboration with her Grammy-winning older brother, Finneas.

OSCARS - From YahooEntertainment:  Superstar songwriter Diane Warren recently received her 11th best song Oscar nomination - for the song, "I'm Standing with You" from the film, "Breakthrough."  She did not win with her previous ten nominations, making her the most nominated woman in Oscar history never to have won.  She says, "I don't ever expect to win" ... but she'd like to.

OBITS:

From Deadline:  The veteran stage and screen actress, Lynn Cohen, has died at the age of 86, Friday, February 14, 2020.  She was best known for playing the role of "Madga" on the HBO TV series, "Sex and the City" (1998-2004) and the 2008 and 2010 film versions of the series.

From THR:  The stage, film, and TV actress, singer, and dancer, Paula Kelly, has died at the age of 76.  The African-American performer's best known film appearances include "Sweet Charity" (1969) and "The Andromeda Strain" (1971).  She received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, one of them for one of her best known TV roles, "Theresa" in the miniseries, "The Women of Brewster Place" (ABC, 1989).

From BleacherReport:  Former Major League Baseball player, Bill Buckner, has died at the age of 69, Monday, May 27, 2019.  Buckner has a 22 year career and was known for being a first baseman, although he did play some as an outfielder.  He was known for his part in an infamous incident during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

From Deadline:  Pro Football Hall of Fame (Class of 1977) NFL quarterback, Bart Starr, has died at the age of 85, Sunday, May 26, 2019.  Starr was the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers from 1956 to 1971.  He led the Packers to five NFL championships, including wins in the first two Super Bowls (I in 1967 and II in 1968).  Starr remains the only starting quarterback to win three consecutive NFL championships (1965 through 1967 seasons).

From Variety:  The actress Charlotte Rae died at the age of 92, Sunday, August 5, 2018.  Rae was best known as the housemother, Mrs. (Edna) Garrett, on the long-running NBC sitcom, "The Facts of Life" (1979-1988).  She also appeared on the short-lived, 1960s sitcom, "Car 54 Where Are You?" (which is one of my favorite TV shows - Ed.)

From THR:  The actress Mary Carlisle has died at the age of 104, died at the age of Wednesday, August 1, 2018.  She was Bing Crosby's co-star in three delightful musicals of the 1930s, including 1937's "Double or Nothing."  She co-starred with several big names of the "Golden Age" of Hollywood films, including Jack Benny in "It's in the Air" and John Barrymore in "Should Ladies Behave."  Carlisle retired from acting after appearing in the 1943 horror film, "Dead Men Walk."

From TheNewYorker:  American author Philip Roth has died at the age of 85, Tuesday, May 22, 2018.  He won the "Pulitzer Prize for Fiction" in 1998 for his novel, "American Pastoral."  Several of his works were adapted into film, including the novel, "The Human Stain."

From THR:  Movie poster artist-designer, Bill Gold, has died at the age of 97, Sunday, May 20, 2018.  Considered to have revolutionized the movie poster, Gold produced posters for film such as "Casablanca," "The Exorcist," and "A Clockwork Orange."  Gold produced dozens of posters for Clint Eastwood films, including "Dirty Harry" (1971), "Unforgiven" (1992), and "J. Edgar" (2011).

From ESPN:  Noted college football player, Billy Cannon, has died at the age of 80, Sunday, May 20, 2018.  Cannon played collegiate football for Louisiana State University, where he won a national title in 1958 and the Heisman Trophy in 1959.

From THR:  The British film director, Michael Anderson, died at the age of 98, Wednesday, April 25, 2018.  Anderson received a best director Oscar nomination for directing the 1956 version of "Around the World in 80 Days."  He is also known for working in the sci-fi genre, particularly for "Logan's Run" (1976).  Anderson worked with some of the most famous British leading men, including Michael Redgrave and Alec Guinness.

From TheWrap:  Jazz musician Bob Dorough has died at the age of 94, Monday, April 23, 2018.  Dorough was instrumental in the 1970s educational cartoon series, "Schoolhouse Rock!" (ABC).  He wrote and performed iconic Schoolhouse Rock songs, "My Hero, Zero" and "Three is a Magic Number."

From Variety:  The film producer, Philip D'Antoni, died at the age of 89, Sunday, April 15, 2018.  In 1972, D'Antoni won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for producing 1971 best picture Academy Award winner, "The French Connection."  D'Antoni also produced the Steve McQueen classic, "Bullitt," the first film he produced.

From CNN:  Rapper Craig Mack has died at the age of 46, Monday, March 12, 2018.  His 1994 hit, "Flava in Ya Ear" is considered one of the defining rap songs of the 1990s and was the first release and first breakout hit for Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boys Records.  Mack earned a Grammy nomination for "Best Rap Solo Performance" at the 37th Grammy Awards (1995).

From Variety:  The actor Martin Landau died at the age of 89, Saturday, July 15, 2017.   He won an best supporting actor Oscar for his performance in Tim Burton's "Ed Wood."  Many will remember Landau for his role in the original "Mission: Impossible" TV series.

2017 Black Reel Awards Winners Announced; "Moonlight" Named Outstanding Film

The Black Reel Awards annually honor African-Americans in feature, independent, and television film.  The awards also take notice of the work in film by people of color throughout the African Diaspora.  The awards were launched in 2000, and this is the 16th year the awards will be handed out.  The Black Reel Awards are now given out by the Foundation for the Advancement of African-Americans in Film (FAAAF).

The nominations for the 17th Annual Black Reel Awards were announced December 14, 2016.  The Black Reel Awards are comprised of more than 110 voters across the country.  The voters annually select and spotlight films, television, and music and performances featuring African-Americans, as well as people of color throughout the African Diaspora.  The 17th Annual Black Reel Awards winners were announced on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

National Society of Film Critics Name "Moonlight" Best Picture of 2016

The National Society of Film Critics was founded in New York City in 1966 and its membership is currently comprise of 56 of the country’s most prominent movie critics.  Known for their highbrow tastes, these critics form one of the most prestigious film groups on the United States.  Current members include some of my favorite film critics, like David Edelstein and J. Hoberman, among others.  The late Roger Ebert, my favorite critic, was also a member.  The society has produced several anthologies about movies, including the must-have for film fans, Produced and Abandoned: The Best Films You’ve Never Seen (1990).

The National Society of Film Critics gathered on Saturday, January 7, 2017 to vote on their annual film awards – the 51st edition.
