VIZ Media has secured the digital streaming, EST, home video and merchandise rights from Shueisha Inc. The series is set to premiere in Japan this April on TV Tokyo.

In addition, VIZ Media is partnering with Televix Entertainment to present CAPTAIN TSUBASA to Latin American buyers at the upcoming NATPE market (Miami, FL, January 16-18). Televix represents all broadcast and digital licensing rights in Latin American territories, and will be taking meetings at the Fontainebleau Hotel Tresor Tower Suite 1708.

The manga triggered a huge soccer boom in Japan and inspired three previous television anime series, four anime films, mobile and console video games, and even a stage play. Centered on a young soccer prodigy named Tsubasa Oozora, the new series is from David Production (JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE), with Toshiyuki Kato (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Diamond is Unbreakable, Level E) directing. Each episode is characterized by dynamic and stylish soccer moves, while the characters are fleshed out through Tsubasa’s friendships and rivalries as he trains and competes.

Illustrator Hikaru Nakamura made her debut in 2001 with her manga, Kairi no Sue, in the Monthly Gangan Wing magazine. Her other works include Arakawa Under the Bridge, also published in Young Gangan, and the 2009 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize-winning Saint Young Men, which was published in Monthly Morning Two. She previously collaborated with NISIOISIN for his Ōgiri series with “The One Wish I Really Want to Come True, and the Ninety-Nine Others I Don’t So Much.”

In 2002, NISIOISIN’s novel, The Beheading Cycle, won the 23rd Mephisto Prize and became his debut publication. His other notable works include the Zaregoto series, the Monogatari series, the Densetsu series, and the Bōkyaku Tantei series. NISIOISIN also wrote the manga tie-in novel Death Note: Another Note. As a manga writer, he has appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with his series Medaka Box – also collected in a 22-volume set – and his Ōgiri series of one-shot manga stories have been featured in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, Weekly Young Jump, and Bessatsu Margaret.

The spotlight on her prolific career began in 1978 when she won an honorable mention in Shogakukan's annual New Comic Artist Contest for Those Selfish Aliens. Later that same year, her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Urusei Yatsura, was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. This phenomenally successful manga series was adapted into anime format and also spawned a TV series and half a dozen theatrical-release movies, all incredibly popular. About Azumi Inoue & Yuyu
Making her debut in 1983, Azumi Inoue first gained notice as the singer of the end theme for Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli anime movie, Laputa: Castle In The Sky with “Carrying You.” Performing as a singer on many early Studio Ghibli movies, she is also known for such favorites as the opening and closing themes for My Neighbor Totoro: “Stroll” and “My Neighbor Totoro;” and incidental music for Kiki’s Delivery Service: “Changing Seasons” and “Maho No Nukumori.”

Yuyu is the daughter of Azumi Inoue. In 2012 Yuyu made her debut at the age of seven on the public broadcasting channel NHK, performing the song “6 Sai No Ballad” (6 Year-Old’s Ballad) for the TV show, Minna No Uta, which has a 50-year history, was bombarded with requests for the song, making it a huge hit. In 2014, her song, “Hanbun Otona” (Half an adult), a duet performed with her mother Azumi Inoue, was also broadcast on NHK’s Minna No Uta, making it her third consecutive song to be shown on the program. She is currently a 12-year-old junior high school student.
