Storm King Productions Heads to C2E2 with "John Carpenter's Asylum"

Storm King Productions attends C2E2

(Hollywood, CA) Horror graphic novel publisher, Storm King Productions, announced today that the John Carpenter's Asylum limited edition hard cover art book will be available at Booth #608 at C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) in Chicago, IL  This version of the book is only available at conventions or via the Storm King web store http://www.stormkingproductionsstore.com/. C2E2 is the premiere comic show in the Midwest. The show runs from April 24th through April 26th, 2015.

The first trade in the series is available in 3 forms.  The hard cover trade release is a full 200 pages which contain the 144 comic pages from the first six issues as well as a sketchbook from Leo Manco that shows pages in the three different stages of development (pencils, inks, colors), a “how to”guide covering the creation of the John Carpenter’s Asylum animated trailer, and three new demons never before seen in the comic! The limited edition art book style hard cover will have the same interior with no new demon information but does include book plates that have been hand numbered with signatures by Sandy King Carpenter, John Carpenter, Leo Manco, Bruce Jones, Trent Olsen, Janice Chiang, and Thomas Ian Griffith. There is a soft cover version as well.

About John Carpenter’s Asylum:
There’s a war coming to the City of Angels.  In tunnels beneath the city, in the dark alleys among the homeless, demons lurk and Lucifer bides his time. One man knows.  One man sees. One man walks those dark streets. Father Daniel Beckett’s seen demons and he’s spoken to the Devil, but he’s never seen an angel and he’s never spoken to God.  Obsessed and driven as much by betrayal as righteousness and anger as redemption, he walks the smoke-filled encampments of lost souls like Dante’s nine rings of the Inferno. He is God’s warrior at war with God.

With this step into the comic book world, John Carpenter brings it all to the serial world he’s loved since childhood.  Supernatural horror with that twist of fate that only flawed mankind can provide.

Sequart Digs Deep into "Star Wars" and "Planet of the Apes" with New Books

Sequart Announces FIVE Books on STAR WARS and PLANET OF THE APES

Sequart Organization is going sci-fi in a BIG way

With the success of last year’s analysis of Star Trek’s entire comics history (http://sequart.org/books/33/new-life-and-new-civilizations-exploring-star-trek-comics/), Sequart is proud to announce that work has commenced on three Star Wars books and two Planet of the Apes books.

Over the next three years, Sequart will release essay anthologies analyzing all aspects of the Star Wars mythos:

First up will be 2015’s A Long Time Ago: Exploring the Star Wars Cinematic Universe (http://sequart.org/books/45/a-long-time-ago-exploring-the-star-wars-cinematic-universe/): Edited by Rich Handley and Joseph F. Berenato, this book will examine the entire big- / small-screen saga that is Star Wars. From theatrical films to TV movies, from cartoons and commercials to variety shows and video-based amusement-park rides, the mythos continues to keep audiences glued to their seats. This anthology features insightful, analytic essays about the franchise’s long history from popular film historians, novelists, bloggers, and subject-matter experts, exploring why the films proved so immediately popular, where the movies and TV shows have succeeded and faltered, and why we all keep going back for more.

Next will be 2016’s A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Exploring Star Wars Comics (http://sequart.org/books/46/a-galaxy-far-far-away-exploring-the-star-wars-comic-books/): Editors Joseph F. Berenato and Rich Handley pick up where their previous volume left off. Over a thousand comics have been produced from a variety of publishers, including Blackthorne Publishing, the L.A. Times Syndicate, Dark Horse Comics, Scholastic, Tokyopop, and more. They’ve spanned the history of the franchise, from millennia before Anakin Skywalker’s birth to beyond Luke Skywalker’s death, and they’ve focused on every aspect of the Star Wars Universe. This anthology features insightful, analytic essays examining the Star Wars comics, written by popular comic historians, novelists, bloggers, and subject-matter experts — plus, a foreword by fan-favorite Star Wars comics writer John Ostrander. From Jaxxon to Cody Sunn-Childe, from Ulic Quel-Droma to Lady Lumiya, find out how comics helped to keep the Star Wars Universe alive, and why you’re missing out if you’re not reading them.

Finally there’ll be 2017’s A More Civilized Age: Exploring the Star Wars Expanded Universe (http://sequart.org/books/47/a-more-civilized-age-exploring-the-star-wars-expanded-universe/): More than 250 Star Wars novels have been published by Del Rey, Bantam Books, Ballantine Books, and others, aimed at both young and adult readers. Spanning the decades before, during, and after the films’ events, the books have spawned new galactic governments, explored the nature of the Jedi and the Sith, and developed the Star Wars mythos well beyond merely a series of films and television shows. Editors Rich Handley and Joseph F. Berenato complete their trilogy with a look back at not only the Star Wars novels but also video games, radio shows, role-playing games, and more.  This volume offers insightful, analytic essays examining the Star Wars E.U., written by popular film historians, novelists, bloggers, and subject-matter experts — including fan-favorite Star Wars novelists Timothy Zahn and Ryder Windham. The films were just the beginning; find out how the universe expanded.

And the sci-fi fun continues. Over the next 18 months, Sequart and the editing dynamic duo of Handley and Berenato will deliver two Planet of the Apes essay anthologies:

Coming out in just a few months will be The Sacred Scrolls: Comics on the Planet of the Apes (http://sequart.org/books/41/the-sacred-scrolls-comics-on-the-planet-of-the-apes/): More than 150 POTA comics have been published during the past four decades, from Gold Key, Marvel Comics, Power Records, Brown Watson Books, Editorial Mo.Pa.Sa., Malibu Graphics, Dark Horse, Mr. Comics, and BOOM! Studios. Writers have explored the settings, concepts, and characters from the films (and occasionally the TV series), while introducing an array of new characters and scenarios. Back stories have been revealed, plot holes filled in, and histories extrapolated upon. The comics have employed multiple genres and styles, taking readers to distant villages, ruined cities, and oceanic civilizations — and have even seen the apes battle alien invaders from War of the Worlds and Alien Nation. It’s been quite the madhouse, to be sure. But by and large, the Apes comics have remained true to novelist Pierre Boulle’s simian spirit. This anthology will feature insightful, analytic essays about the franchise’s four-color continuation, from popular comic historians, novelists, bloggers and subject-matter experts.

And 2016 will see Bright Eyes, Ape City: Examining the Planet of the Apes Mythos (http://sequart.org/books/48/bright-eyes-ape-city-examining-the-planet-of-the-apes-mythos/): The Planet of the Apes franchise has spawned eight films, with a ninth currently in the works, as well as two television series and several novels. It’s one of the most respected franchises in film history. This anthology will examine every Apes film, TV show, and novel, from 1968 to present. Like the first volume, this anthology will feature insightful, analytic essays about the franchise’s long history, from popular film historians, novelists, bloggers, and subject-matter experts. If you’re eager to learn more about Apes lore, then you’ll need to get your stinkin’ paws on this book.

About the Publisher: Sequart Organization is devoted to the study of popular culture and the promotion of comic books as a legitimate art form. Sequart has released twenty-three books, six documentaries, and thousands of online articles. Its documentaries include She Makes Comics, and its books include Our Sentence is Up: Seeing Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles. Sequart is currently producing a documentary on writing powerhouse Neil Gaiman.

Marvel Announces "Lando Calrissian" Star Wars Comic Book Series for July 2015

The following is a post from StarWars.com, presenting news announced at Star Wars Celebration 2015

Lando #1 Coming in July from Marvel

Hello, what have we here?

The smooth-talking scoundrel strikes back! Marvel and Lucasfilm announced today that Lando Calrissian — puffer pig collector, Cloud City administrator, and Rebel hero — will star in his own limited series. Lando #1, from creators Charles Soule (Death of Wolverine, Inhuman, She-Hulk) and Alex Maleev (Daredevil, Spider-Woman, Moon Knight), hits stores in July, and finds Lando embarking on his greatest caper ever.

“Is Lando Calrissian the coolest character in all of Star Wars? Depends on who you ask, probably. But if you ask me, the answer is yes, and I plan to prove it with this story,” says series writer Soule.

In Marvel’s Lando, developed closely with Lucasfilm, the titular character — in the days before he became a hero, but still with Lobot at his side — looks to steal one of the galaxy’s most valuable ships. But, as usual, he may be in over his head.

“Before Cloud City, before his glorious Death Star run,” continues Soule, “Lando Calrissian was just a man trying to make his way through an uncaring universe determined not to recognize that he was undeniably the coolest man in the galaxy. But Lando’s got a plan to change all that… and it starts with the deal of a lifetime.”

Hot on the heels of the character’s return in the Star Wars Rebels animated series, Lando joins Marvel’s growing line of critically acclaimed and bestselling Star Wars comics, including Star Wars, Star Wars: Darth Vader, Star Wars: Princess Leia, and Kanan: The Last Padawan. This deal is getting better all the time.

Check out a special first look at two alternate covers for Lando #1 here, and stay tuned to StarWars.com and Marvel.com for more on Star Wars comics and graphic novels.
