New "Star Trek" Animated Series Flying to Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios Announce New Animated “Star Trek” Series
The Series Will Be from CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment
Share it: @Nickelodeon @NickAnimation #Nickelodeon
BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios announced the greenlight of a new animated “Star Trek” series to be developed by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters” and “Ninjago”) and overseen for Nickelodeon by Ramsey Naito, EVP, Animation Production and Development, Nickelodeon.
“Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.”
Debuting exclusively on Nickelodeon, the series expands the “Star Trek” universe for a new generation of fans. The new original CG-animated series follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.
The series will be from CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Katie Krentz, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers alongside Kevin and Dan Hageman. Aaron Baiers will serve as a co-executive producer.
“‘Star Trek’s’ mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,” said Alex Kurtzman. “Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek’ to a younger generation around the world.”
“‘Star Trek,’ Nickelodeon, and the state of animation are doing incredibly ambitious things as of late. We couldn’t be more excited to jump aboard," said Dan and Kevin Hageman.
“Partnering with CBS Television Studios and the creative masterminds behind the ‘Star Trek’ franchise is an incredible opportunity and allows our audience to discover rich characters and new stories,” said Ramsey Naito. “‘Star Trek’ is a franchise loved by generations of fans around the globe, and adding Nickelodeon as home to the next animated series is a perfect fit.”
The animated series is the newest addition to the expanding “Star Trek” television universe. It joins STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and STAR TREK: SHORT TREKS, a series of short stories tied to DISCOVERY; the new untitled “Star Trek” series featuring Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard; STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS from Mike McMahan (“Rick and Morty”), an animated series targeted at mature audiences; and a new “Star Trek” project based on “Section 31,” which is in development with Michelle Yeoh attached to star. All these projects, except the new Nickelodeon edition, are on the CBS streaming platform CBS All Access in the U.S.
Emmy Award-winning brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman have written and produced some of the biggest animated franchises in film and television. They served as co-executive producers on the Emmy Award-winning series “Trollhunters,” co-created the hit “The LEGO Movie,” wrote and executive produced “LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu” and developed the theatrical “The Lego Ninjago Movie.” Additional credits include “Hotel Transylvania” (story creators) and “The Croods 2” (writers), along with the upcoming live-action feature “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” (writers).
The new “Star Trek” series is the third animated series from CBS Television Studios, following STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS for CBS All Access and OUR CARTOON PRESIDENT for SHOWTIME.
Claudia Spinelli, VP Animation Development, Nickelodeon, is the executive in charge of the new animated “Star Trek” series for Nickelodeon.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Chris Pratt, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Ellen DeGeneres, Adam Sandler, Robert Downey Jr., Shawn Mendes, Zendaya, Noah Centineo, Selena Gomez, Joey King, Jace Norman, JoJo Siwa, David Dobrik, Avengers: Infinity War, Riverdale and DJ Khaled were among those who won coveted orange blimps at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2019 on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Hosted by music mogul DJ Khaled, the unpredictable and always messy awards show was broadcast live from USC’s Galen Center in Los Angeles, where kids celebrated their favorites in pop culture, television, music, social media and movies.
This year’s party kicked off with DJ Khaled making his way to the Kids’ Choice Awards in style, with an assist from friends Kylie Jenner and the Jonas Brothers. His next-level arrival began with a ride in a Rolls Royce Phantom, followed by a cruise on a luxury yacht, and a trip on board the “Kids’ Force One” helicopter before landing at the Kids’ Choice Awards.
There was no shortage of slime and epic moments from this year’s show: Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott from Disney’s Aladdin arrived on a magic carpet and made the audience’s slime-filled wishes come true, dousing Smith and kids in green goo; DJ Khaled had to don a JoJo bow after losing a dance battle to JoJo Siwa in a live vote; Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez and Michael Peña, from Dora and the Lost City of Gold, world premiered the trailer for the upcoming Paramount Players live-action movie; DJ Khaled then surprised the audience by unboxing social media sensation Ryan of Ryan ToysReview; social media star David Dobrik, Chris Pratt, Josh Peck and Adam Sandler were soaked from head to toe; and the show culminated with DJ Khaled turning up the volume one last time with the biggest sliming of the night, blanketing the first-time host and the crowd.
Multiplatinum hip-hop trio Migos performed their hits “Walk It Talk It” and “Stir Fry,” along with rising single “Pure Water,” accompanied by DJ Durel. Members of the original Broadway cast of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical--Allan Washington (“Plankton”), Brian Ray (“Mr. Krabs”), Christina Sajous (“Sandy”), Danny Skinner (“Patrick”), Ethan Slater (“SpongeBob”) and Gavin Lee (“Squidward”)--also made their KCA debut with a medley of “Best Day Ever” and the animated show’s iconic theme song.
Additional celebrities in attendance include: Paris Berelc, Ally Brooke, Lana Condor, Joel Courtney, Jennifer Hudson, Jack & Jack, Liza Koshy, Caleb McLaughlin, Janelle Monáe, Shameik Moore, Bebe Rexha, Kiernan Shipka, Lilly Singh, SSSniperWolf and Jason Sudeikis; cast members of Shazam! (Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer and Zachary Levi) and Fuller House (Andrea Barber, Soni Nicole Bringas, Candace Cameron Bure, Michael Campion, Elias Harger, Jodie Sweetin and Scott Weinger); plus Nickelodeon stars from Henry Danger, Cousins For Life and Knight Squad.
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2019 will encore on TeenNick, Monday, March 25, 2019, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) and on Nicktoons, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). The show will also be available on Nickelodeon On Demand beginning Sunday, March 24, 2019. Green Slime Honors Went to Will Smith, Josh Peck and Additional KCA Winners Chris Pratt, Adam Sandler, David Dobrik and Host DJ Khaled
Share It: @Nickelodeon #KCA
Kevin Hart Enters First-Look Development Deal with Nickelodeon
Nickelodeon and Kevin Hart Enter into Exclusive First-Look Deal to Develop and Produce Content for Kids
BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon has entered into an exclusive first-look deal with comedian, actor and television personality Kevin Hart (Night School, Jumanji, The Secret Life of Pets) and his production entity, HartBeat Productions. Hugely popular among Nickelodeon’s audience, Hart will develop and produce live-action, scripted kids’ content for the network through HartBeat.
Kevin Hart noted, “For me, Nick has always represented everything fun about being a kid, and it’s still at the forefront today of kids’ and family entertainment. I’ve been slimed at Kids’ Choice, won a lot of Orange Blimps and my kids are my very own built-in focus group, so I’m ready to dive in and make some next-level shows with Brian and everyone at Nickelodeon.”
Added Brian Robbins, Nickelodeon’s newly named President: “I’m excited to inherit this terrific content deal with Kevin Hart just as I step into my new role at Nickelodeon. Kevin is an incredible talent whose appeal cuts across practically every age group and every member of the family. He knows how to create unforgettable characters, and I can’t wait for him and HartBeat Productions to focus their creativity on making great new content with us.”
Hart is no stranger to Nickelodeon and its audience, having garnered numerous Kids’ Choice Awards nominations and Orange Blimp wins. In 2014, Hart won for “Favorite Funny Star.” In 2017, he took home two awards in the categories of “Favorite Villain” and “Most Wanted Pet” (Snowball, The Secret Life of Pets), and one for “BFFs” (Central Intelligence).
About HartBeat Productions
Founded by Kevin Hart, HartBeat Productions is a multi-platform production company creating unique content for worldwide audiences. With a focus in Feature Films, Television and Digital Content, HartBeat aims to provide content from culturally diverse storytellers that resonate on a global scale. HartBeat currently has a First-Look deal with Universal Studios to produce Feature Films. Their first production together, Night School, had the highest grossing opening weekend for a comedy in 2018. PARAMOUNT PLAYERS’ DORA THE EXPLORER FEATURE FILM COMMENCES PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA
This First Live-Action Adaptation of the Nickelodeon Franchise Stars Isabela
Moner and Eugenio Derbez with Muppets Director James Bobin at the Helm
Gold Coast, Australia — Paramount Players announced today that the motion picture adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Peabody Award-winning children’s animated series, Dora the Explorer, began principal photography on location in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, on Monday, August 6, 2018. The production, being directed by 11-time Emmy and four-time BAFTA nominee James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, “Flight of the Conchords”) marks the lovable Latina character’s big screen debut (and first live-action adaptation on any platform) after fourteen seasons (2000-2014) and 172 episodes on Viacom’s enduring children’s cable network. The film is a Paramount Players and Nickelodeon production in association with Walden Media. The film is being supported by the Queensland Government via Screenland Queensland. Paramount will release the film on August 2, 2019.
Dora the Explorer stars Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Instant Family) in the film’s title role. Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents nothing could prepare Dora for the most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.
Seventeen-year-old actress Moner is joined in the film by one of Mexico’s biggest stars, Eugenio Derbez (Overboard, Instructions Not Included, How to Be A Latin Lover), who plays Alejandro, a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect the teenagers from the marauders. The film also features big screen newcomer Micke Moreno (Escobar: Paradise Lost), in the role of cousin Diego; Nicholas Coombe (“Spy Kids: Mission Control,” Midnight Sun) as Randy, a fellow high schooler who develops an immediate crush on Dora; Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock,” “Tidelands”) as the school’s snooty class president, Sammy; and Academy Award® nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel, Amores Perros, Thor, The 33) as Dora’s grandma, Abuelita Valerie. Temuera Morrison (Green Lantern, Moana) will play the role of Powell. Additional key casting announcements are forthcoming.
The film is produced by Christopher Robin producer Kristin Burr, who is joined by longtime Bobin associate, executive producer John G. Scotti (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as well as executive producers Julia Pistor (The Spiderwick Chronicles, A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Eugenio Derbez.
Bobin has assembled a talented team behind the camera that also includes reunions with Oscar®-winning production designer Dan Hennah (Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Alice Through the Looking Glass) and costume designer Rahel Afiley (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted, “Flight of the Conchords”). The pair will be joined by six-time Goya Award winning (and BAFTA nominated) cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe, A.S.C. (Secretos del corazón, The Others, Blue Jasmine, Thor: Ragnarok), film editor Mark Everson (Paddington, Paddington 2) and BAFTA-nominated VFX supervisor Andy Brown (Black Panther, House of Flying Daggers, Moulin Rouge!)
Dora the Explorer will film entirely in Australia’s Gold Coast, in the state of Queensland on the continent’s east coast south of Brisbane. Village Roadshow Studios, where the production will headquarter, has been host to several major Hollywood movies in the last few years, including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Shallows, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and, most recently, DC’s Aquaman. In addition to designer Hennah’s stage builds, the production will utilize Queensland’s diverse landscape, notably tropical forests near Tamborine Mountain and Tallebudgera, to portray Dora’s jungle habitat.
Paramount Pictures is a subsidiary of Viacom. Nickelodeon is part of the Viacom Media Network, also a division of Viacom.

2018 Kids' Choice Awards Announced - Complete Winners List
Dwayne Johnson, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Zendaya, Shawn Mendes, Millie Bobby Brown, Fifth Harmony, Stranger Things, Coco and More Win Big at Nickelodeon's 2018 Kids' Choice Awards
KCA Host John Cena, Shawn Mendes, Heidi Klum, Mel B, Laurie Hernandez, JoJo Siwa and Liza Koshy Among Celebs Doused with Iconic Slime
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dwayne Johnson, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Zendaya, Shawn Mendes, Millie Bobby Brown, Fifth Harmony, Stranger Things, Coco and more were among those who won coveted orange blimps at Nickelodeon’s 2018 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, March 24, 2018 8-9:30 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast). Hosted by WWE Superstar John Cena, the unpredictable mess-fest was broadcast live from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., where kids celebrated the best of everything they love in pop culture.
This year's festivities included Cena running through the “Upslime Down Room,” “Black Panther’s” dressing room and the wrestling ring, before slamming onto the KCA stage. Cena then performed the hottest dances--the Swish Swish; The Rolex and Mic Drop--with social media star Backpack Kid and kid dancers.
During the show, chart-topping band N.E.R.D. performed their smash hit, “Lemon,” with a crew of kid dancers on top of a cafeteria table. Nickelodeon star and social media sensation JoJo Siwa also took the stage with a medley of her hits “Kid in a Candy Store,” “Hold the Drama” and “Boomerang,” before getting doused with green slime.
The 2018 Kids’ Choice Awards proved to be a mega slime-fest: from Heidi Klum and Mel B getting slime-soaked on a swing set while presenting an award; to Favorite Funny YouTube Creator winner Liza Koshy getting a surprise double sliming at the podium and backstage; to Henry Danger star Jace Norman pranking Shawn Mendes with buckets of green goo after winning Favorite Male Artist; and Cena closing the show with an epic finale sliming of the audience after receiving the ultimate dousing himself.
This year’s show put the power of choice in the hands of kids at home with an interactive digital experience. Kids had the opportunity to choose what happens live during the show by casting votes to determine the outcome of multiple stunts including: Black-ish star Marsai Martin wearing “Guac Socks” in a game of “Eat It or Wear It,” and social media stars Alex Wassabi and LaurDIY taking on the “Fear Box” challenge.
Additional celebrities in attendance include: Kristen Bell, Josh Brener, Nick Cannon, Echosmith, Kat Graham, Grant Gustin, Laurie Hernandez, Jiffpom, Chloe Kim, Darci Lynne & Petunia, Omar Miller, Ne-Yo, Storm Reid, Ben Schwartz, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Yara Shahidi, Brandon Mychal Smith, Jaden Smith, Hailee Steinfeld, Channing Tatum and Zendaya.
In addition to the live votes, Nick's digital platforms offered a second screen experience that included real-time play-alongs, interactive polls that paid off within the show and exclusive real-time updates with photos and videos from the orange carpet and backstage. From Facebook to Snapchat and everything in between, Nickelodeon's social channels captured all of the best snaps, memes, GIFs, videos and pics from the night. Fans can go to Nick.com or the Nick App to relive all of their favorite show moments by watching video highlights from the live show and flipping through live event pictures.
Kids and families casted votes in 19 categories, including four new ones, Favorite Funny YouTube Creator, Favorite Musical YouTube Creator, Favorite Dance Trend and Favorite Instagram Pet. Fans were able to vote for their top picks across all of Nickelodeon’s digital platforms including Nick.com and the Nick app and on iPad, iPhone, Kindle, and select Android devices; along with Twitter using #KCA.
Nickelodeon’s 2018 Kids’ Choice Awards will encore tonight at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) and Sunday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Replays of the awards will also air on TeenNick Monday March 26, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), and on Nicktoons Wednesday, March 28, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT). The show will also be available on Nickelodeon On Demand beginning Sunday, March 25.

Nickelodeon Revives "Blue's Clues"
Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues is Back, Remade for a New Generation of Preschoolers
New Blue’s Clues Series, Picked Up for 20 Episodes, will Feature All-New Production and Animation
Casting for New Host Begins this Month
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon will have a new generation of preschoolers searching for clues, as it brings back the beloved puppy Blue in a remake of its groundbreaking series, Blue’s Clues. Picked up for 20 episodes, the new Blue’s Clues will have a refreshed signature look and casting for the new host will begin this month, including an open call in Southern California on April 14. For more info, visit http://blues-clues-host-casting.nick.com. Production on Blue’s Clues will commence this summer.
“The new, modern version of Blue’s Clues will capture all the original’s creativity and visual identity for a whole new audience ready for its fun adventures and expertly designed problem-solving curriculum.”
“With Blue’s Clues, Nickelodeon launched what became TV’s first generation of interactivity for preschoolers and set the bar for quality, curriculum-driven shows we have made since,” said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon Group. “The new, modern version of Blue’s Clues will capture all the original’s creativity and visual identity for a whole new audience ready for its fun adventures and expertly designed problem-solving curriculum.”
The new Blue’s Clues series centers on the energetic girl puppy Blue who invites viewers into her animated world to help solve the day’s puzzles with the help of a live-action host. Preschoolers are encouraged to interact with the action on-screen by answering questions, pointing out clues, jumping on their feet and playing along.
The original Blue’s Clues series launched in September 1996 to critical praise from educators, parents and preschoolers and ran for six groundbreaking seasons. Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues drew acclaim and high ratings for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time. The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions and anatomy.
The classic Blue’s Clues library is currently available on NOGGIN, Nickelodeon’s video subscription service for preschoolers, and short-form content can be found on the Nick Jr. App and NickJr.com.
Nickelodeon, now in its 38th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, digital, recreation, books and feature films. Nickelodeon’s U.S. television network is seen in more than 90 million households and has been the number-one-rated kids’ basic cable network for 22 consecutive years. Hasbro and Nickelodeon Partner on "Top Wing" Preschool Series
Nickelodeon and Hasbro Announce Strategic Partnership for Nick’s Newest Animated Preschool Series, Top Wing
Hasbro to create Top Wing PLAYSKOOL Product Line Featuring Figures, Vehicles and Plush Scheduled to Debut Fall 2018
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, and Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), a leading global play and entertainment company, announced a strategic partnership for the network’s new hit preschool series Top Wing, produced by 9 Story Media Group. The product line, which includes figures, vehicles and plush inspired by the show’s four best friend rescue birds, will launch in the U.S. this fall, followed by international markets in Spring 2019.
“Nickelodeon’s preschool portfolio has a powerhouse roster of content and the action-packed series Top Wing is poised to be another runaway fan favorite,” said Pam Kaufman, Chief Marketing Officer and President, Consumer Products, Nickelodeon. “This partnership will be our first preschool master toy deal with Hasbro done on a global scale, which mirrors our content roll-out strategy to introduce Top Wing domestically first, followed by international markets. We can’t wait to see our fans earn their wings as they bring the adventures of Swift, Penny, Rod and Brody to life with this new toy line.”
“Top Wing has all the signature elements of a top toy property, with great characters, preschool friendly themes and hi-tech gadgets and vehicles,” said John Frascotti, President of Hasbro. “We are excited about this strategic partnership with Nickelodeon, and are looking forward to delivering a full PLAYSKOOL toy line, inspired by the series, later this year.”
Hasbro’s PLAYSKOOL Top Wing product line will let preschoolers join the Top Wing team and go on action-packed rescue missions with figures, mission-ready vehicles, playsets and plush, all inspired by the characters and adventures on the show. The toy line is slated to launch this fall in the U.S., followed by international markets.
Top Wing follows four best friend rescue birds–Swift, Penny, Rod and Brody–who are training to earn their wings at the Top Wing Academy on Big Swirl Island. The action-packed series follows a team of eager young birds as they work together to help their island community, go on amazing adventures and earn their wings as full-feathered rescue birds. With the help of their mentor Speedy, and unique turbo-charged vehicles and high-tech gadgets, the cadets are assigned different missions to sharpen their rescue skills and help those in need while learning valuable lessons along the way. Produced by 9 Story Media Group, Top Wing features storylines that help preschoolers build self-confidence, and includes lessons about perseverance and hard work. New episodes of Top Wing will continue to air regularly on Nickelodeon and will roll out internationally this year. For more information on the show, please visit http://www.nickjr.com/top-wing/.
