Nickelodeon and Kevin Hart Enter into Exclusive First-Look Deal to Develop and Produce Content for Kids

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nickelodeon has entered into an exclusive first-look deal with comedian, actor and television personality Kevin Hart (Night School, Jumanji, The Secret Life of Pets) and his production entity, HartBeat Productions. Hugely popular among Nickelodeon’s audience, Hart will develop and produce live-action, scripted kids’ content for the network through HartBeat.

From Variety:  Movie producer, Arnold Kopelson, has died at the age of 83, Monday, October 8, 2018.  Kopelson won a "Best Picture" Oscar for producing Oliver Stone's film, "Platoon."   He earned a "Best Picture" Oscar nomination for producing "The Fugitive."

“Writing BTTM FDRS was a very therapeutic way to work through my feelings about issues like cultural appropriation, gentrification, and representation. By reinterpreting these ideas through a candy-coated lens of body horror and snarky dialogue, they became, for me at least, a little less intimidating,” explains writer Erza Claytan Daniels.

“BTTM FDRS combines my love for David Cronenberg style monsters and anti-gentrification,” artist Ben Passmore adds.

Claytan Daniels continues, “I first met Ben at the Chicago Alternative Comics Festival in 2014. He was peddling his comic Daygloayhole, and it was one of those moments I knew I was in the presence of a guy destined to become a household name.”

Bios:
EZRA CLAYTAN DANIELS is a writer and illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA. His work has been featured at the Fantoche International Animation Festival in Baden, Switzerland, the Fumetto International Comics Festival in Lucerne, Haarlem Stripdagen in the Netherlands, and the Whitney Museum. His recent graphic novel, Upgrade Soul, was the recipient of the 2017 Dwayne McDuffe Award for Diversity in Comics.

BEN PASSMORE is a Philadelphia-based cartoonist. He self-publishes Daygloahole, a comic series in equal parts about the apocalypse and anxiety. Ben’s work has appeared in Vice, The Nib, As You Were, Irene, and Felony. His critically acclaimed minicomic, Your Black Friend, was recently reviewed in The New York Times, won the 2017 Dinky Award winner for Best Minicomic, an Eisner Award nominee for Best One-Shot, and winner of the Ignatz Award for Outstanding Comic.

Ansel Elgort Joins Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story"

Ansel Elgort to Star as “Tony” in Steven Spielberg’s New Version of “West Side Story”

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ansel Elgort has been cast in the lead role of “Tony” in the new film version of the Broadway musical, “West Side Story,” to be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg. Oscar-nominated screenwriter and Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner has written the adaptation of the 1957 musical originally written by Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim with music by Leonard Bernstein, and concept, direction, and choreography by Jerome Robbins. Spielberg, Kevin McCollum and Kristie Macosko Krieger will produce the film musical.

Elgort will be taking on the role of “Tony,” which was first played by Larry Kert in the original 1957 Broadway musical. Inspired by William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” “West Side Story” explores forbidden love, and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.

The Twentieth Century Fox Film production has seen thousands of potential cast members during casting calls for actors and dancers in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Puerto Rico over the last few months.

Elgort has starred in “Baby Driver” for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and “The Fault in Our Stars.” The actor can next be seen as the lead in the upcoming film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “The Goldfinch,” which will be released in October 2019.

Spielberg’s most recent projects include “The Post,” a political drama inspired by the Washington Post’s first female publisher, Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep), and its driven editor, Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), and “Ready Player One” based on the popular science-fiction novel by Ernest Cline.

Filming is set to begin in the summer of 2019.
